I have ordered a I5 7400 and a gigabyte mobo to do a build. Don twant win 10 on it, prefer win 7. But theres an update issue. Now i could build a hackintosh with the stuff im getting but issues whether it works fully.
So was looking at sending the I5 etc back and ordering this:
AMD FX-8350 4.00GHz (4.20GHz Turbo) 8x Core Processor - Unlocked, and the required ram ,mobo

I believe this is still capable of having drivers and win 7 updates updated, but its 6/7 years in service i think.

It would be used for photo and video editing so any guidance appreciated.

Cheers

You can install Win 7 on a KabyLake i5 7400. You will have to add some drivers to the Win 7 installation disk.
Any new AMD CPU / chipset will also require to add some drivers to the Win 7 installation disk.
Don't use your current win 7 installation disk on the new hardware. It won't work and you will damage the the installation.
Do a clean install. I can guide you.

While microsoft is desperate to force people to downgrade to Windows 10, including spreading totally false information regarding KabyLake series, it's totally possible to install and run Windows 7 in that computer.

Installation can be a bit tricky, and finding the right drivers may not be a no-brainer, but it's possible to stay with Windows 7 even in that hardware.

Just to clear up some confusion, the AMD FX-8350 will run just fine with Windows 7 with no fiddling at all. No driver issues or anything.

That's what I'm running and I'm having no issues whatsoever.

Hi Gents,
Thanks for the replies.
I knew the AMD would work fine, i also know its an old processor.
In the end i got talked into an I3 8100 with an asus prime mobo. The I3 was the same price as the AMD.
Built works fine but as far as this forum goes with win 10.
It is a brand new build and at the mo everything installed/works fine.
Thanks for the offers of help.

About 1-1/2 years ago I purchased a new Dell Windows 7 computer with a Haswell CPU (4th Gen), to avoid the update issue.

If you want to stay with Intel, go with a Haswell or a Broadwell CPU (5th Gen), and you will not have any update issues. Anything newer than that causes you to have to run special procedures to get them to do Windows 7 updates.

You have a "Coffee Lake" CPU (8th Gen). You will likely need to do some sort of hack in order to be able to run automatic Windows 7 updates.
