I got an error message installing software that CTL3D32.DLL is missing. I did a search and found a few sites that have that file for free downloading. Is there a way to know if these are safe to download? Should I list all the site names here and someone might know?

Here's both from my computer. One is from Windows 7 and the other is from 10. You place this file in the system32 folder in Windows 7. In Windows 10 it belongs in SysWOW64. Not sure if it has to be registered. If so I can give instructions on that if need be.

The problem is which version of the file as it may change with any updates

If the program truly needs that one DLL for 3D, the functionality should be there regardless of version me thinks. I'm hoping the program doesn't need even more dependencies beyond that one listed if that's what the real issue is.

OP, what is the name of the program?

You would want to run SFC so that it reinstates that missing file. It is also not safe to download DLL files from untrusted sources on the internet.

You could also look in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ for ctl3d32.dll and if it is there it means one of two things the file is corrupted or you have malware.
