NOTE: I'd like to start off by saying I know it will likely not be called Windows '8' I just put that into the title as that is easier to say then something else *cough* Windows Next-Generation *cough*

A small buzz about Windows 8 lately has sparked me to post this poll thread.

It is simple, what would you like to see in Windows 8? Personally I'd like to see some visual updates. I like my operating systems to be prettyful!!!

As someone mentioned, I should make everyone aware that this is a MULTIPLE CHOICE POLL! :D

Well, most of those seem like good ideas lol. I voted for custom themes, but GUI is a close second. Integrated virus protection, not so much, I think I'd still prefer to use my own anti-virus. I'm also not so big on self maintenance. You can schedule virus scans and disk defrags and cleanups, but I'd rather do that while I'm sitting here watching whats going on. Taskbar extending would be cool as well. And, other, idk exactly what that means lol but someone voted for it

Yeah, I agree on some level. I think it would be cool to see, instead of the same old bar with different wallpapers, I think it would be cool to see entire desktop environments, kinda like what you can do with windowblinds, except it be a default option, and people could make their own. One cool thing I saw, it was a Halo 3 screenshot, and all of the ammo, health bar, grenades, all of the HUD items were links. Things along those lines, I think, would be cool if it were defaultly supported.

GET RID OF THE REGISTRY! They need to install there apps in the manner that OSX does as well.

The single biggest problem with windows is Virus's and SPyware corrupting the entire system.

in OSX IF you ever did get a virus and you don't,you simply reinstall the application and its all fixed. The rest of your system is intact.

Yeah linux and OSX (it pains me compliment apple) do have a better idea than the registry. Also without a registry, you save some processor cycles when running applications. Maybe not enough that you'll notice, but still

another thing Microsoft needs to implement it when you install programs you should be almost required to put them on a seperate partition or drive. Windows should require that you partition your hard drive to install applications on. This way you would only have to install them once no matter what happens to your windows install. If you ever have to install windows again or upgrade. There should be an option to "read a directory for applications". It should be as easy as that.

But if you reinstalled windows, your registry would be gone, so wouldnt that defeat the purpose? Wouldn't you still have to reinstall the programs to get the registry values back in place? or are you talking about them taking out registry along with this?

yes that is why they need to get rid of the registry also..forgot to add that point.

Yeah I missed the "read programs from directory" part the first time I read. Yeah taking out the reg and making you install things to a seperate partition would be a good idea, and make reinstalling a breeze

I like it to be voice activated and be able to respond back in a nice sexy voice, maybe even an nice animated face on the screen.

maybe having some watch monitor blood presure so it knows in what kind of mood you are in. I like it to be a bit playfull and naughty sometimes.

maybe a second watch for girlfriend/wife so it doesn't say anything to sexual when she is near??

Ok. maybe windows 9???

Some very nice thoughts here!

In regards to registry in particular, I agree that MS should move towards what OS X does where its usually a drag/drop install.
