When I log on, the welcome screen hangs for about 30 seconds and when my desktop finally opens the icons also take about 20 seconds to load, my boot time is about 4-5 minutes. I tried de-activating my anti-virus, CCC and Malwarebytes but that didn't help much, i've defragged my HDD and ran numerous scans with Avast and Malwarebytes anti-malware.

Turns out it was the Avast firewall causing the problem, but the welcome screen still seems to hang, any ideas why?

Then it is probably some app that can be found via the steps in post #2.

If need be, uninstall Avast and test for the hang,

Same thing happened to me. I did the clean startup. For some reason it didn't disable Norton AV, or Norton ID safe, the check boxes were grayed out. However it did disable Malwarebytes Pro. It turned out to be a conflict between NAV and MBAM, even though I had the suggested exceptions for MBAM in NAV. Having only three days until NAV ran out, I used the Norton removal tool to uninstall, and installed McAfee AV plus, then re-installed MBAM (it needed to be uninstalled because of a McAfee installer conflict) This problem has disappeared for me.

Welcome to the Seven Forums Boone24!

Thanks for sharing the additional info. I've often said that uninstalling one's antivirus app is the best way to see if it is causing a problem. Understandably, those apps are not easy to fully turn off.

You might have problems with McAfee's AV tool on W7... or maybe you will just be lucky. There have been many a post about issues with McAfee AV on W7. Keep an eye on it.

It's been over a month now and I've had no problems since switching to vanilla McAfee AV along side of MBAM pro.
