What's the Best Anti-Malware?

The Comodo

I am currently using KIS 2011 ver.556(b.c.d) and find it really effective as long as one sets it up in a decent config. The safe run feature I think is fantastic and in all probability is the same sort of feature as the Sandbox app - which I've got - the paid version but it clashes with KIS as does the paid version of MBAM. Even so one has to disable scan my files settings for the same thing in the free version of MBAM when using KIS.

Now I am doing a build soon and reading yesterday re Comodo that I thought I might give a try on it as I can wipe the HDD and restart with something else - like my KIS or the Pure I have.

Two things bother me though it states it misses nothing and I find that a little hard to take in - is it really that good?? and I saw mentioned the D+ is virtually impossible to get uninstalled once in the machine - trye??

As a minor by the by where can you buy it from - as in Oz I can find nowhere to get it.
Plus the fact I will not buy stuff over the net using cards etc which it seems to be the only venue.

You can get Comodo D+ for free from their site. As far as being able to uninstall it if you decide, all i can say is ive done it and there may be something left here or there but i cant tell as far as performance is concerned.

I vote for Kaspersky. It's got Safe Run - it's called Sand Box before, Kaspersky kinda started this sand box stuff trend if I'm not mistaken - silent mode is perfect for gaming and presentation, identity protection is perfect for e-banking e-payment and has wide compatibility with credit cards and banks and websites, you can disable automatic Idle Scan/ Rootkit Scan and run it on manual, nice interface, built-in rescue disk, virtual keyboard, even parental control - if u need it - And you can exit Kaspersky whenever in 2 clicks. One app that does it all. Imo it's really unnecessary to use 3-4 apps on our system just to feel immune, to have safe computer use and internet-ing habit is more effective in the first place.

And dealing with very badly infected system? I tried all kinds of MS-DOS, scripts, boot scan, remover etc. But only GetSystemInfo and Kaspersky AVPTool is able to save my friends computers many times.

I discovered Comodo several years ago looking for a replacement for Norton after it let a downloading Trojan in as well as allowing 2 different Host File Infections the second of which eventually caused my computer to crash. I have not detected a single piece of Malware on my computer since I installed Comodo and I have not used an Antivirus for 2 years.

Better in terms of protection? If that's the case I could just switch. What setup do you recommend? I need something that is good in terms of protection and removal.

Yes Max I think we all are quite frankly the "tests" wherever they come from have quite wildly differing outcomes. I don't think there will EVER be a general consensus of opinion as each of us has different expectations and habits for that matter.

I still say though that no suite will ever be 100% simply because of the enormous volume and deviousness of the crims and hack fools. You have only to look at car security systems for instance invent a new one and you can bet your house on there being some crook already onto it.

I'm with KIS 12 at the moment and I must say it's a vast improvement on 11 less disk space cleaner GUI more tools so am staying with it on my main machines. My old XP I'm trying the free Avira and it seems to be pretty competent. I also reckon it is down to us too to be careful in what we do - what do you think??

Router/modem TP-Link running WPA2SK
I'll tell ya what I think. I use Sandboxie and trust it and have a few small tools like malwarebytes and Spybot S&D - But, I think we should have a way to virus scan an application before we download it, scan it as it's coming in and scan again after it's on the system - and then run it in a protected sandbox environment in case it turns out to be a virus the software didn't catch so it can't get into the host to infect it.

The trouble is many of us use apps the virus software sees as malware or virus's like no CD patches or some networking apps. This opposed to nasty malware that hijacks your browser and causes redirects every time you go to a web page or something really evil like a virus that corrupts or destroys your system. Even if you use custom rule sets to try to let your safe no cd patches in this does not always work. What we need is a paradigm shift in virus detection technology that can better discern between the many types of possible malware. I use sandboxie because I can make an informed choice to 1) download only from trusted sources and 2) choose to let said download into my system. If I let an anti malware program do that for me live, it's gonna screw up every time unless it just locks off the whole connection and lets nothing in which is no good. I cannot trust any of them to make choices for me so the only live protection I have is my own mind.

All I know for sure is that I have been using the Comodo Firewall and Proactve Defense+ HIPS for over 2 years running my browser in the virtual space of Sandboxie without the detection of so much as a single tracking cookie.

Having my computer remain Malware free represents a success to me and all of the vain speculations about other Malware being able to operate with Sandboxie in drop rights mode have never materialized not because I have been careful, but because the computer security software from Comodo and Sandboxie have done their jobs.
