Solved What's the best way to open zip folder?

I feel sooo dumb asking this because I have opened zips way in the past but right now am having a brain fart. I have just downloaded both a 'program' & a 'tutorial' for it & don't know if I should 'right' click or 'left'click, & where to go from there? I also don't understand the "Take Ownership".

On a zip just double click on it then click on Extract all files. Then click on Extract button.

Assuming you have WinRAR installed, you can just right click the file, and then click on either Extract Here to extract it right there, or Extract Files, which opens up a menu where you can select where and how to extract it.

I don't think I have a special program for zips, just whatever came with my PC. I guess my main concern was that I still don't understand sooo much about using a computer that I don't know if I need everything that comes in a zip and/or what to click on. Should I just assume that all files in there are needed?

Thanx but am on limited income so pretty much need to rely on free programs. I don't know that I would ever need to 'send' a zip, don't know that much about computers but some things that I download (AFTER I make sure it's SAFE) are zipped.

Windows 7 has built in support for zip files. Just double click on it an it will open in explorer.

You do not need a special program for zip folders it's build in Windows 7 look at post #2 above.

There is a reason for the confusion. It depends on the contents of the .zip file.

In the case of a self-contained program with all its folders and contents compressed in a .zip file, a right-click will bring a context menu to "extract all" of the program into a separate folder.

In the case of a program installer along with miscellania compressed in a .zip file, a left-click will dive straight inside the .zip file to the installer where one can left-click to run the installer.

All done without the need of a 3rd-party program.

I always create a new folder on the desktop, name it, then extract to the folder.

7-Zip

It's free and is probably all you'll ever need for unzipping files.
