What's your First O.S to now list

Since Windows XP support is at the under a year mark I was thinking about the different flavors of windows over the years that I've used and invite you to list/share your experiences on the subject.

Let's see:
1994/5 Windows 3.0 w/MS-Dos 5.0 - my first pc, used ibm 80286 with accompanying monitor/printer. My mother bought it for me for $500.
1995 - upgraded the ibm with Windows 3.1. copied the disks from my aunt. I used her pc to copy the 1.44mb disks to 18/20ish 720kb disks cause the ibm's drive could only read 720kb disks

1997 - Windows 95 - First modern pc also first time i got internet. IBM aptiva w/inkjet printer. cost over 2 grand. was a b-day present from my mother.

1999 - windows 98se - upgraded my ibm aptiva along with it's hdd/ram/ and graphics card. Burnt me a copy of a 98se cd I found in my school's computer lab.

2001 - Windows M.E. Came preloaded on a Dell Dimension L800CXE. Downgraded to 98SE within a week cause frankly I liked 98SE better. Bought it for $800. Soon upgraded the graphics card with a Radeon SDR 32mb pci so I could play Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament.

2002 - Windows XP Pro. Snagged a copy from a dude at school. Upgraded the dell. Then used it as my main os when I built my first custom pc to replace the dell in 2003.

2010 - Windows 7 Pro. Felt it was time dump XP cause I knew it'd be a matter of time before Firefox/AVG drops support for xp altogether. plus xp's lack of gpt and advanced 512 sector support would limit hdd upgrades down the line.

Side note: Win 3.x/MS-Dos install - 13-15mb w/all options. Win 95 - 200mb. Win 98SE - 500mb. Win xp - 1.5GB. Win 7 pro. 13-15gb. Makes you think how far or how bloated windows has come don't it?

I've used as my primary OS, in chronological order as far back as I can remember:
* Windows 3.11 for Workgroups
* Windows 95
* Windows 98
* Windows ME
* Windows 2000
* Windows XP
* Windows 7

All of them, including Windows ME, have been downright awesome and up until the Windows 8 debacle I've been a long-time fan of Windows. Out of the above list, I currently actively use Windows 7 and XP.

I have also occasionally worked on computers with Windows Vista. On the Linux side, I've used Puppy Linux to perform recovery operations and am currently fiddling with Linux Mint 14 KDE in a dual-boot setup on my laptop (with Windows 7 as the "master" OS!).

2001-2004 Win95 osr2.5 - Great to learn on and incredibly simple. Daily BSODs, though.
2004-present XP Home SP3 - Indestructible, flexible, runs anything I throw at it. My all time fave.
2007-present Vista SP2 - Slow and fugly
2012-present Win7 Pro 32 bit - Seems bloated, complicated, fragile. Some programs won't work with it. Poor font rendering. Needs third party apps to return to 95/XP usability (ShellFolderFix, Classic Shell, Ultimate Windows Tweaker, Network Activity Indicator)
Verdict: Nothing compares to XP for this user.

First real OS I used was VAX/VMS, late 90's when studying. Those days we learned coding using languages most of todays coders have never seen like Fortran and Cobol.

A bit later CP/M. Since 1983 various DOS versions parallel with different AmigaOS versions, then each and every Windows version. Most Linux distros although I only feel familiar today with Novell SUSE. Solaris UNIX is also something I know quite well.

MacOSX sucks!

1976 - used HP 3000 Minicomputer, don't remember OS.
1984 - DOS 2.1 - This was the first OS I purchased.
1985 - DOS 3.1
Eventually also used DOS 4.x, DOS 5.x but don't remember dates
1985-present - Tried Windows 1.0, thought it was useless but eventually used every version of Windows including NT and Server editions.
1986-1996 - IBM VM and MVS on IBM mainframes
1989 - AmigaDOS 2.x?
1987-1999 used various versions of OS/2. Started as a Beta tester pre 1.0, used thru Warp 4
1996 - IBM i on AS/400
2003 - Sun Solaris
2009 - Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard
Present - I have machines running XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 as well as several running Linux distros

I'm sure there's others I've forgotten. I've been a programmer/software engineer for almost 30 years so had to use/learn many OSes.
