Running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter on a virtual machine to run Metro Apps.
1.JPG

I have the lowest package the cable company offers with a 15mbs limit so I suppose its doing well.

I did however just upgrade my package to the 50mbps and Im not sure if it'll help. But they said they have to come out this Saturday and give me a new modem since the one I have will not work at those speeds.

So I have a couple questions and hopefully someone will know.
I have a Netgear N900 4500 router. Dual band 450+450.

Its running 4 wired devices (My main PC, PS4, PS3, and Amazon Fire TV are wired)
And 11 wireless devices. 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 printer, 5 Smart phones, and 2 tablets. And DirectTv genie is on the Wireless too.

Problem Ive been having is things slowing way down at times.
For example, when my niece, who lives with me, is Streaming HD Netflix and doing whatever else she does on her laptop in her room while Im downloading a Steam or PSN game, things start slowing down. Sometimes causing buffering on the second PC on Youtube.. Of course theres other minor things going on to but thats probably the busiest it gets.

At any count, the routers been a great one thus far, but just curious if Id need to upgrade it to a faster wireless one or if it should be OK if the source bandwidth is higher.
It doesn't drop signal or anything, unless Internet goes down, just slows down when alots going on in the house at once.

So faster Wifi or should more bandwidth do the trick?

Also curious how best to allocate the wireless. Laptop and PC on 5Ghz, and all the phones tablets etc on 2.4?

--- Oh And the Wireless PC does show the same results on Speed test as mine on the hardline. So should it get 50 to?

I'd say its a bandwidth limitation rather than router speed. 50Mbps upgrade should fix it up. You only need 802.11ac if you have internet speeds above 150 Mbps

Well, I got my upgraded modem and speeds last Saturday.
Everything has been smooth. Even at our heaviest peak usage nothing slowed down this time.

No drop outs or anything, so Im happy there. Maybe I had a bad modem or maybe it was a bandwidth issue. Whatever the case, things are good now.

Heres what it looks like now.
2.JPG

Maybe its just me but, at times certain websites do indeed seem faster and load faster.
But for the most part, not really.

But everything overall does feel smoother ... if that makes sense. I suppose certain sites have bandwidth capped on their end. So expecting 50mbps downloads everywhere all the time is not reasonable.

Just a bit off topic, why did you choose a server grade CPU?

Not interested in overclocking, wanted something powerful yet very stable, low thermal footprint. It's basically and i7 w/ no OC at a cheaper price. It's being used a lot for a home media server till I finish my NAS unit. Never misses a lick. Love it.

Took me frigging ages to set up a stable wifi network at my new appt, but now that I see the sweet interwebs flowing through I can honestly say it was worth the trouble, especially since my last appt had a lousy 10Mb/s.

Now it's waiting for Google Fiber to come to The Netherlands so I can finally stream 1440P HD videos without any lag buffer time whatsoever :D

Huge difference. I'll soon say goodbye to my 300 mbps plan as the promotion price will soon be over. In the meantime, here's my max throughput out of my phone's
WiFi: 274.82 Mbps out of 433 Mbps connection speed.
