When putting in laptop charger, laptop goes up to 80 degrees celcius

Why when i put on my laptop charger laptop goes up to 80 degrees celicus It gets really hot but when i take it off it goes down

Thats because the system "steps down" the CPU, GPU, Display brightness among other thing when the computer is running on batteries. With some tweaking you can make it run at 80 degrees all the time, but your battery wont last long. You may also notice it responds a bit better when running on mains. With regards to getting it to run cooler on mains. I have never really tried tuning a computer the other way but someone here may be able to advise. I was expecting to see AMD CPU in your specs and I would in that case say it was normal. Other than that you may have high levels of dust build-up or failed fans inside. If you know someone experienced with laptop repair you could get them to take a look and give it a clean out.

I would check the amount of dust build up.

Another thing to do would be not use the laptop while the battery is charging. Turn it on, just close the lid so that it goes to sleep but continues to charge.

How old is the laptop/battery? If the battery is old it may not fully charge and may get very hot while charging. If the battery never reaches a full charge it may need to be replaced. I've worked a few laptops where the battery was shot and wouldn't charge. The battery itself was also very hot to the touch. I just took it out and the laptop cooled down to normal temps.

Nice one alpha, I hadn't considered the battery being the source of the heat (and Alpha is spot on, it often can be) what are the temps like with the mains on and the battery out? (Most laptops will run like this)

It's just something else to consider that may be overlooked. You are also correct, todays laptops will throttle down to a power saving mode when on battery. They will run cooler in that mode. If a laptop gets really hot and you're not doing any heavy computing or gaming, there is usually something else going on that needs to be addressed. Just putting your hand on the bottom of the laptop should give you an indication of if its the battery or CPU that's generating the heat. I haven't run into a laptop that wouldn't run on just the power pack without a battery in it. Not yet anyway.
