Solved Where can I get older Nvidia drivers?

I went to my OEM site to download an older driver for my Geforce 9600M GT but it was only for a 32 bit system and I am 64 bit. Is that really strange that they didn't even offer it in 64 bit?

Anyway, there was less icon lagg and window lagg using no Nvidia driver so I guess the newest one is causing some slow down in how windows manifest and icon manifest. Does that make sense?

Can you tell me where I can get an older and better nvidia driver than the current one?

Hi Rolo,

Have you let Windows update install one for you? It will usually be a bit older than the ones from the manufacturer's site, and Windows should install the x64 version.

no I have not. I will uninstall the Nvidia driver now and hope Win update offers one quick

thanks for the link. Quick question thought. Why should I go for that driver over waiting for Windows update to offer me an older Nvidia driver?

also, I do not think it is a 9600M GT (M meaning mobile for a notebook)

I would always take the Win7 drivers provided by installer, Windows Update and the Windows Driver Store first. But it doesn't hurt to compare.

When I check the Nvidia site it finds 64 bit W7 driver for the 9M notebook series. Drivers - GeForce

Thanks greg, the wizard does tell me which driver to download but it's the newest driver and I think i would be better off with an older Nvidia driver. Still waiting for Windows Update to offer one.

I can't be sure, but I really think the newest Nvidia driver is causing lagg of my icons and stuff like that to manifest. Does that make sense?

Yes it's always good to compare all available GPU drivers for how they perform all around. But are you sure you tried that 296.10 WHQL which was developed with MS at the WIndows Hardware Quality Lab for Win7?

Remember they remain cued in Device Manager>Display driver>Update Driver>Browse>Let Me Choose.

the newest driver is the only one i tried after a clean install. I'll go download it again. Usually I just run the driver exe. should I not do that and instead opts to navigate to it from the device manager?

That's up to you - I was just reminding you where they're stored if you want to compare them.

However I do not let Nvidia services remain in msconfig>Startup or >Services because they are unneeded if you're not overclocking.

how do i stop them from going into services? You mean just navigate to msconfig and delete them?

Yes uncheck them in msconfig>Startup, and msconfig>Services after Hiding all MS Services.

You'll get better performance by unchecking everything in both places except your AV. This is called a Clean Boot.
