In a hut.
I have a new inbox which I use, but up above there sits the old inbox which has a zillion old emails on it, some of which may occasionally have to be searched and/or read. I don't want them deleted as such. Can I not drag or otherwise move the entire folder off Thunderbird and into a folder on C; drive or USB? There is no EXPORT tool in TOOLS in this ancient [78.14] version.
Thanks for any advice.

Use Thunderbird's "Local Folders" feature. Thunderbird should already have created it during setup.

You can rename "Local Folders" to anything you like (such as "Mail Archives", if you wish), you can add subfolders, and you can specify its folder location to be anywhere on your system -- even outside the default Thunderbird profile location if you prefer. Then just drag-and-drop emails from the inbox to "Local Folders".

Remember that once you move them, that will be your one and only copy of those emails, so make sure you include the "Local Folders" file location in your regular data backup plans.

I moved them to Local with a location on desktop, then deleted the original, with fictitious location.. I think that did it. Thanks very much.

Sounds good!

Note you can move that Local Folder off your desktop to anywhere -- even a USB stick. Just drag and drop via Windows Explorer. When you want to access any of the archived emails, just go into Thunderbird's Account Settings and point the Local Folder setting to its current storage location.
