Where the partition names saved on?

Hello,
Who know the where the partition names info saved on? in Registry or Disk? for example change the name from "Local Disk" to "My Disk", why sometimes the name cannot be changed in Explorer? thank you

Logic would suggest that it is saved on the device because when you carry it to another PC, the name still appears.

It is stored on the drive itself. Don't try to rename them in Explorer. Go into Disk Management and rename the partitions there.

Deacon, I would be curious why you advise against Explorer. I always rename my drives in Explorer and never had any problems. Was I just lucky??

In my experience, I've had issues with the names not sticking in Explorer. Yet whenever I rename or label disks in Disk Management, it seems to stick each and every time. The only reason I suggested trying it in Disk Management is because I wondered if this was the same behavior I've come across occasionally.

I think I understood what you are saying: Changing the name is safer with Disk Management than with Explorer. That is no problem for me.

Actually a partition doesn't have a name. A volume has a name. It is stored on the volume itself. Where .... depends on if volume has been formatted as NTFS or FAT32.
