Which antivirus software?

The new Microsoft Security Essentials is fairing very well (enhanced version of One Care). It's the only free software that earned an Advanced+ rating last month for malware removal:

Do you know if it uses the One Care AV engine or an improved version?

In the latest AV comparatives virus removal tests One Care removed only 90% of viruses. They haven't tested Security Essentials yet as far as I can see.

It looks to be an improved version. According to that malware removal test, Microsoft Security Essentials scored Advanced+ .....with a footnote next to it saying One Care would have only scored Advanced.

Thanks - I understand that after reading the report. I was asking about the Antivirus engine - different component. And they are careful to point out that those test have a very low sample rate of 10 but don't point out that means the programs only work like that in real life for a minority of people in all probability i.e. in your PC another might be better because of the particular invaders that arrive.

Yes, and they also noted that they tested OneCare as well and it only scored Advanced...not Advanced+...so MSE may be worth a shot for folks who are cheap like me.

i use bitdefender, i find it good, i've also got antivir on my netbook & my mum's PC, i'm quite liking it, so when my bitdefender licence runs out, i may well go over to antivir.


in the UK here, PC Advisor mag did a test on free AV's

avira antivir came out top, then it was avast

Well the question really is wat suits to ur system most.just use trials of KIS n ESET
well be sure that there are sum problems with KIS 2010 on win 7 but it still one of most trusted av brands out here.ESEt is continously rocking charts this year see av comparatives

and as for free the best are Avira n MSE
