I prefer TV, works out of the box and you can log on without disconnecting the current user. You can also configure it to work in LAN mode.

What I use is a NAS/Network Attached Storage drive connected to my Router by Ethernet cable and store videos [mainly .flv and other downloads] and music on it. Then I can access the drive from Windows, Mac OS X and Linux Mint and play using compatible programs, usually VLC as it is cross-platform.

yea ive seen many cloud services but i rather not go that route i eventually plan on building a computer from scratch with enough memory to store all my media
