So I am buying a new laptop for mostly solid works, auto cad, catia . I want to know which would be he best option. I also did some research and found out that hyper threading is better for 3d rendering. If I go with the i7 how much performance will increase? Like 10%,20%...

Specs of laptop #1 Lenovo

Intel Core i7-5500U 2.4 Ghz Broadwell dual core
8GB RAM DDR3L 1600
Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500

Specs of Laptop #2 MSI

Intel i5-4210M 2.6 Ghz Haswell dual core
8GB DDR3 (does not provide speed,assume it is the same speed)
Nvidia Geforce 920M with 2GB GDDR3 Memory (dedicated)

I want to have the smoothest performance.

Also the price is same $749

Lenovo
Lenovo Laptop G50 (80E501B2US) Intel Core i7 5500U (2.40GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD Intel HD Graphics 5500 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

MSI
MSI Laptop CX61 2QC-1660CA Intel Core i5 4210M (2.6GHz) 8GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce 920M 15.6" Windows 8.1 - Newegg.ca

I just want to know which would be the smoothest/lag free option.

The i7 shows as 200 dollars more expensive when I click those links.

Have you asked at any of the Autocad forums?

I'd expect they can give you the most accurate info on whether hyperthreading is important enough to overcome the slightly slower clock speed of that i7.

The video chip on the i5 you chose has a slightly higher score on the Passmark video benchmark. I don't know if that slightly higher score would be noticeable in real world usage.

The i7 has a slightly larger hard drive if that matters.

Just ignore the price. They are both same. As I already said they both are $749

I did ask the cad forums but no reply.

- For all I know it is always better to have a dedicated video card.
---> MSI wins.

- In a test frames in several games with the same pc but with different cpu the difference was (most) not much. They are games, but I think it can serve as a reference.
---> Lenovo and MSI Wins.

- For design work it is always good to have a good amount of RAM. Autodesk recommends 8Gb.
---> Lenovo and MSI wins.

- For these tasks it is good to have a good amount of space.
---> Lenovo Wins.

Both they are evenly matched but go for the MSI by the integrated video. That's my opinion.

Well my budget is $800. This laptop is for personal and for work use. I want to know that is there a performance difference with hyper threading. If there is no difference I would just buy the MSI.

Depends on what you use it for. My Laptop is an Acer which is low end model. I upgraded to 10, and no problems. Didn't have much problems when it was running 7 either. Like a car, it just depends on how you use them and how you treat them. I've had mine since 2011 or 2012.
