At present I have Windows 7 pro 64-bit OEM from HP. It came with the computer.

Reason I want to get another Os is that the start up time is very slow, the OS is
loaded with garbage programs that HP thinks I want and no OS disk.

What I want is an OS CD, Full retail version, a clean install from scratch, under a $100,
no Windows 8. $200 and up is not feasible for me.

I'm dreaming right?
Your thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks Guys for helping.
Couple more questions.
I have downloaded x17-59186.iso sp1 U.
Burned it to a cd.

I have no idea if this download is an OEM or Full Retail version.
Is this procedure correct? Do a quick format of the HD.
Load the Cd and proceed to build Windows 7 pro 64-bit OS.
Load necessary drivers from HP.
Add my key when asked.

OEM or Full Retail are actually the same. Some OEM's add special drivers though.... but actually they are the same. x17-59186.iso sp1 is win7 professional english (usa) with sp1 btw (retail). A OEM or RETAIL license key will work.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

You can find drivers on HP-site.

So your procedure is correct!

It would not boot on a blank HD. Should it be in some other format and how?

use Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool to create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive with the ISO to do the clean install with.

Did you use that tool?

I managed to build the disk correctly this time
using x17-59186.iso.
With the old windows still on the computer I loaded this
new cd and executed "setup.exe".
It complained that it would not work on my computer as
it was not 32-bit. x17-59186.iso is for a 64-bit computer
so I am totally confused.
I looks like you deleted a post (?)

Don't run setup.exe .... only execute it when doing a upgrade install (or repair install, which is actually an upgrade install).

You have x64 win7 now... at least that's what you wrote at your system specs on sevenforums

Can't thank you guys enough. Anyway, Thanks Much.
This message is coming to you from Wiffies computer.
Yes, I deleted that message because I found my error.
I was trying to install from a 32-bit program.

I have managed to install Windows 7 pro 64-bit.
But, now the fun starts. I am unable to gain access to the internet.
It is complaining about the Network Adapter driver.
I have gone on HPs site and looked for this driver for the
p7-1380t and the closest thing I could find was sp58084.exe.
And it talks about wireless and this confuses me.
Fine, but where do I put it?????
I also looked in Windows.old but couldn't fine anything.
If I can't solve this I will have to revert to the HP garbage OS.

Msg given: System does not meet the minimum for this update

sp-59644.exe did not enable an internet connection.

I have included the image of the device driver you requested
from the newly installed Windows OS.

Wonder if it could be the netgear fs105 that windows 7
pro won't recognize?

What are the hardware id's of the "other devices"?? #12
PC has a wired or wireless network card? If wired.... is a network cable attached to system?

"Ethernet Controller" hardware-id is most important for me. If you have that driver... you can access your network... so internet. Windows Updates can find other drivers automagically (maybe). I hope automatic driver installation has been TURNED ON. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/82137-drivers-turn-off-automatic-driver-installation.html

These are from the Device Manager
Ethernet controller driver is not installed.
PCI simple communications controller is not installed
SM Bus Controller is not installed

I have no idea if the PC has a wired or not wired network card
Remember I can NOT get on the internet to update these drivers.
I don't think I would be able to do that on my Wifes Dell.
I have been unable to find the Ethernet controller driver on the HP site.

I will check out your latest suggestion for drivers on the HP site.

I could try this but have no idea if it would work.
Back up the new window 7 OS. Install the old OS. Then look for the
drivers. Install the new OS and install any drivers.
