Solved Which Powershell/WMF File Should I Download?

Hi,

I'm using a Dell Studio 7 laptop running Windows 7 Premium 64bit and want to upgrade Powershell from version 2 to version 5.1 but am not sure which file to download, as the download page lists several.

Which of the Win7 files do I need? Do I need the W2K12? Please help.

Just as a matter of interest did you read all the the links that that MS download site mentioned. I read through all of them & it says that even if you install a Powershell update it may not result in the computer updating.

After due consideration I decided to leave well alone & not try & update Powershell. Sometimes updating may not suit your system & cause all sorts of problems.

Ran Option 2 yesterday, for a 64bit comp.

Thanks Ranger4. The only reason I'm attempting this is to run the vulnerability check scripts for Meltdown and Spectre, as I got exactly the same error messages as torchwood in the Windows Client Guidance against speculative execution vulnerabilities thread.

I also have a older power shell V2.0 and I'm going to leave it alone.
I will wait for the proper Windows 7 update that comes along for this problem.
