i am new here sorry 4 any mistake in advance, i wanted to ask which registry cleaner should i use 4 windows 7 ultimate and how to protect PC with spyware

CCleaner, the rest are junk and are not worth paying for. That being said, they don't do much and buying hardware is always the best idea. Nothing like a quad and 8GB of DDR3 RAM to awaken 7.

It needs to be said that care must be taken with any registry cleaner, they all have the power to completely disable your PC and it is a good idea to create a system restore point in case there are any unforeseen problems, see the tutorial at the link below.

+1 Bare Foot Kid In my opinion you gave the best advice for everyone to heed, careful what you wish for when cleaning the registry because if it cleans something needed by the os you may end up doing a clean install.

For about ten years I saved backups offered on CCleaner Registry cleanup. Finally I realized it doesn't seem to make mistakes so I don't back up the deletions any more.

It just works.

1. I think registry cleaning is pretty useless in Win7 - I use none.
2. For virus protection I also recommend MSE
3. I am a fan of imaging. It can easily bail you out when you are in a tight spot.

I'll use CCleaner reg clean function if I think an app did a sloppy uninstall. But only sparingly. Not as routine maintenance. It seems to work well.

Only proviso, if you have some software that uses registration and stores some stuff in the registry that's not obvious, it may be a good idea to immediately open the program and use the Update Registration feature if it has one. That will usually rewrite the encrypted blob of whatever so it doesn't tell you a week later that your trial has run out.

I highly recommend CCleaner as well. Make use of the Registry backups no matter how safe you feel with it though – on my XP machine, three years ago, after hundreds of scans without any problems and on a much earlier CCleaner version it arbitrarily decided to delete “My Pictures” folder and we lost EVERYTHING. They weren’t in Recycle Bin, they were’t in hidden folders, they weren’t ANYWHERE. So I say again make good use of the Registry backups offered EVERY TIME and actually review what it’s about to delete to make SURE it’s not something vital before you click that “Clean” button!

As for malware… MBAM (Malwarebyte’s), Spybot Search and Destroy, Microsoft Security Essentials (all three of those are free) and, if you can afford it, NOD32 by ESET. All very good programs, but in my humble opinion nothing beats NOD32!

As a side-note, I’d recommend avoiding McAfee and Norton at all costs. They miss what free prorgams pick up, so I naturally don’t trust them… but hey, to each his own. Try them out too if you want.

CCleaner for cleaning junk.

Something like Malwarebytes or Hitman Pro to compliment your AV solution. This should be all you need for the most part. Just stick with a decent AV.

Registery Cleaners ... I would say do not use them at all.

They tend to delete legit entries, and do more harm than good.

---Im not sure about McAfee, but I can say Norton 2010 is excellent.
It doesn't miss what some free programs pick up, it just doesnt report false positives. Theres a difference.
Do some research on this years AV testing & the results.

Rather than going crazy with av programs that suck up performance I prefer the approach of using Sandboxie when indicated. Supplementing that with the occasional scan with malwarebytes and others. Most of the crap is going to try to come in through the browser. If you run it Sandboxed it redirects the disk write to the sandbox. Simple and fast. It doesn't try to "figure out" what bytes are "good" or "bad" as they come over the wire.
