Either way, there's no resonable idea in ruin an allmost smashing Windows 7 with "netscape lookalike" faded third party tools just to please EU, if someone want's to spoil the fun, it's they're choise, as well as mine, not to.

So if possible i'll keep Windows Mail doing it's job on my rig, takes some fiddling, well if that is all, i'm happy.

And EU does'nt tell Porsche to offer the car with alternative engines, from ie. Audi, BMW or Mercedes, why force Microsoft to, that's against all logic!

Personally I like Outlook 2007 which I purchased in office standard 2007 or you can purchase separately.

If free is the requirement then I also use Thunderbird. It has all the functions that I want including calendars and personal folders. It has worked flawlessly for me during my testing and I use it to monitor other email addresses that I don't use on a daily basis. It will also administer multiple email accounts /providers and combine or keep separate the mail from each depending on your configuration/needs.

I'm not really a big proponent of live services (it makes you dependent on the provider to continue to provide said service as well as being at their mercy if they choose to charge or increase the costs to benefit their bottom line). Prefer to keep my info close to home and maintain it myself. This is of course a personal choice that each person needs to make for themselves, each has its benefits and its problems so you need to weight the benefits verses the negatives and decide what works for you.

Since we're digging up old threads at this point I've simply moved away from the WM for the WLM option as well as other online methods since trying to import mail from new accounts with the new ISP doesn't work.

The old ISP had an assigned user name and password there that you simply entered in when setting OE or WM up. With the new one that's strictly one you set up online to begin with. But just like the old one using WM you get spam mail incoming without even using it!

Simple solution? Use online spam free clients!

The strange thing is, there it is sitting in Program Files/Program Files (x86) too (on x64) - inactive.

I did the hack published elsewhere here and now have Windows Mail back which I much prefer to Windows Live Mail. The latter would be fine if it didn't make a separate batch of folders for each email address. When you have 10 like me, that becomes a chore, scrolling up and down the page just to see which folders need attention.

The only way you see individual folders for each contact is when selecting that option in the mail setting while logged into the account at live.com. The email from all contacts arrives in one main inbox here. Plus I see notifications for those when the live messenger is in use.

I don't even use live.com so why would I have to do that? I'm talking about the way Windows Live Mail sets itself up on your computer when it involves multiple email addresses.

That sound like you are trying it with multiple aliases not simply having multiple contacts with a single address.

I'm talking about my own personal email addresses, all 10 of them, nothing to do with contacts. With any other email client there is a common inbox for all of them. With Windows Live Mail there is a complete set of folders for each one by default.

That's I thought you were talking about there. Each folder represents a separate Live account while WM previously OE allowed for different aliases being based on a local account on the system while WLM is web based.

Except they are my ISP accounts, not Live accounts...anyway, I don't like that sorry so I will never use WLM if I can avoid it.

I would use it only as a newsgroup reader if I didn't have WM.

When I tried importing email from the old ISP's inbox WLM made that the default client when logged in online not through WM there. That was the annoyance of trying that out.

Apparently it sees each alias you have as a separate account explaining multiple inboxes. But you also have to remember it's an updated version of "Hotmail" which always did have a bad track record to start with.

The only two reasons I use it here is one for the messenger as well as not seeing any spam mail except for MS items that come in maybe once a month. When checking up on the old ISP's inbox try well over 100 spam mails! :shock: The report spam option is worthless! so you know why I had to go with an alternate.

No, I use Outlook and having WM in Vista is redundant. I do like the suggestion of having WM as a Live download for those who want it.

I use Outlook 07 as my client with several different gmail and MS live mail accounts (using a MS plug in for outlook called "Outlook Connector" for the latter). Generally it all works great. Lets me easily send from whatever account I want and all the different Gmail accounts feed into one main inbox. Gmail gives massive amounts of storage for each account and keeps a backup of everything online and has pretty decent spam filters. The whole setup works well for me, so I'm not especially tempted to play around with other providers and methods. I generally find Outlook to be very powerful but the interface is a bit awkward and doesn't always easily let me do exactly what I want to do, for example, permanently setting a custom font size in the reading pane. But that's a fairly minor issue.

Will be interesting to see whether Outlook 2010 is improved or made worse. I had an invitation to the Office 2010 Technical Preview but when I tried to sign up it didn't work.

But I get the impression that the pop3 comms technology is not favoured by the industry?
