Why am I "loosing" cookies for some websites?

I am really lost here. Running Win 7 Ultimate x64 (legitamate copy) with all of the latest updates/patches.

For some reason, I am "loosing" cookies on some of the websites that I visit. They have "keep me logged in", and they are checkmarked. Sometimes I am there for 15 minutes before I need to re-login, and sometimes for 4-5 hours. But sooner or later, I have to manually re-login.

The only way this gets "fixed" if I reset all cookies and this seems to fix this for day or two and then back to same issue. The strange thing it is not happening on all websites, but on like 20% of 'em.

I really have no ideas what to do and I must stick with IE8 for compatiblity reasons with some of the JAVA applets that I am running.

Any advice?

What websites are giving you trouble?

I assume you are using Internet Explorer. Try using another browser, like Firefox or Chrome.

hi....might be a site specific issue rather than your browser being at fault.

You're certain you're not running a program that cleans cookies out correct? The first time I ran CCleaner, I forgot to save my cookies and spent an extra hour visiting all of my sites to log back in.

Otherwise, switch to Firefox :)

Another possible culprit could be your Anti-Virus program, depending what one you are running.

Some, such as Norton for example, clean cookies it deems as tracking or potentially unwanted, daily. Its possible this could be whats happening.

Hmmm... I am running Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 v9.0.0.736.

Any guess what, I tried to reply to your message here, and it prompted me to login to this website, eventhough I had earlier today logged in and told it to "remember me" by checking the box on.

I'm sure you'll be okay for a day or two; just don't visit any *adult* sites, DO NOT download any torrents or even search for them. Just confine yourself to email, sevenforums, and whatever sites you are sure are safe.

It's an idea, but I really dont want to be surfing the internet without protection...

You can use Sandboxie to run your browser sandboxed. It has settings to let browsers have direct access to cookies. Anything you don't allow direct access goes to the sandbox instead. You can set it to automatically delete the sandbox when the last sandboxed program closes. Once your browser comes up there's no noticeable speed hit. It's just a tad slower coming up off the HD.

Hello.. just thought I'd sign up to say that I'm having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

I like you am using Windows 7 (x64), IE8 and Kaspersky 2010. What confuses me is I have 4 systems running very similar configurations, and its only my main PC with this cookies issue, and again its only a handful of sites I'm visiting its doing it for. Very frustrating, can't think what could be causing this.

Also posted on the MS forums about this issue, but no reply as of yet - IE8 on Windows 7 (x86 and x64) losing login information (cookies)

Have tried full reset of IE and a full clear out of all temporary internet files and cookies, but still the same annoying issue. I know switching to another browser would work, but I'd rather get to the root of the problem and get IE8 working again.

Cheers
