Why can't I do a clean install?

It may require another Startup Repair so run it from the DVD this time.

GWScan is specially for WD altho it runs on most others. So run memtest86 overnight then full HD diagnostics test tomorrow.

Ask back if you have any questions. It would be good if you could respond to each suggestion. For example, I suggested you try to find another video card to swap in - from a friend, bought from a store to try and possibly return, etc. Any ideas on that?

Alright. And i know for a fact that my computer will work 100% with different hardware ^^ but the point is to fix this without spending money if possible. And yes i'll for sure run that memtest :)

So what's happening now?

Tomorrow i'll ask my friends at school to borrow a g card.
And aha i'm working on answering each question >.<

Windows restarted after applying all those operations and froZe again, now the screen went blank. Time to boot from disc and try again?

Also my dad asked if i needed anything for the comp like hardware, etc. So he MIGHT be able to help and get some different hardware but i doubt that.

Yeah try Startup Repair one more time from DVD to see if it will even boot into Safe Mode.

The idea of trying to get into Safe Mode when you've installed on other hardware is to install the chipset and video driver to see if that is enough to start it up. It is usually a combination of these drivers which foil startup when returned to original problem machine.

Then try clean reinstall one more time before testing hardware.

The problem with memtest86 might have been that more that you have to use older version .34 with more than 4gb of RAM.

Alright, using the boot cd now. Sometimes it shows "boot mgr not found" or errors with the disc (retail) when it isnt even scratched or damage.
Like right now, it made a few buzzing noises within the case where the cd driver is. And now making a tappinf noise.. On the screen it only shows a blinking underscore

You may have a failing DVD drive. Did this happen in your Mom's computer? You may need to borrow her DVD drive or use USB key to try install.

The way I set up USB key that works every time is using UltraISO trial version. Load ISO in on File or Add tab, then click Bootable tab, select Write Image file, format first before Writing.

To extract your ISO file from DVD use ImgBurn.

Yeah i have 8GB RAM.
The win7 disc ran fine on her comp. But the thing is, is that i have used other discs in my dvd drives and they Ll worked just fine. The only problem is the windows disc which is recent. Wasnt like this when the comp crashed, it got all slow about 4 days after.

Just finished the second start up repair, here are results.
" root cause found: unspecified changes to system configuration mjght have caused the problem.
Repair action: systen restore
result: completed successfully

repair action: system files integrity check and repair
result: failed. Error code= 0xa"

so it did sonething new this time. Should i do another start up repair?

Oh, and tomorrow i'll worry about clean installing because it's too late to try and install right now. But you said try USB. I'm thinking that would be legit, but cant make one tonight because my mom is asleep(her comp is in her room). So the most i can really do tonight is startup repairs and memtest :( i think we are in the same timezone, or at least it is the same time right now

Sounds like you got a plan workin.

Try DVD or USB formatted install if you want, removing some of the RAM if necessary,

then run memtest86 overnight to stress test RAM.

Tomorrow test the HD then zero it out using same CD.

Work on finding another video card to try install - maybe your Uncle can help.

I'll check in tomorrow afternoon. :sleepy:

Alright yeah i'm just gonna throw that memtest on and go to bed

seems like start up repair is giving me useless answers but it might be helping? Idk i'm getting no progress with it so w/e i'll get on find some new hardware. I hope there is a warranty on that G card.

Greg, if you are still there, I can point steezy where to get software but I am new to this forum and not sure of the rules regarding disclosing where to get free stuff, maybe you can give me a heads up on what is OK to post.
Also I posted a thread last night and so far no one has any suggestions on installing Win 7 to a sata 3 raid0, you seem very switched on and maybe you could have a look.

Bye for now.

What software are you recommending?

If you don't need all the extra space that RAID0 gives then I would break it and install to one HD as Win7 doesn't much care for dated RAID technology.

Yeah if you can just throw out what you think is the problem and how to fix

It's been a while since i have checked up on this thread, and no responses :s
BUT i figured out the problem. I have a bad copy of windows. Meaning the entire OS windows 7 went bad, idk how, but it did so i have to buy a completely new version of windows 7 which will cost me around $140 total.

I'd like to thank everyone who has put their thoughts and knowledge into this thread. Special thanks to gregrocker, you rock. Rep.

I'm going to become active on sevenforums once my computer is completely fixed, so see you all soon!

Hey Steezy if you have any copy of XP or Vista there that you are not using, then you qualify for an Upgrade version Win7. You only need Home Premium if you're not using Bitlocker or VM, so you should be able to find one for around $105 if you shop. Stay with the major retail box or online stores like buy.com, bestbuy, newegg.com, office depot, etc. Check your Sunday paper ads.

Otherwise if you have confidence in your mobo on your Uncle's build you can buy a Builder's OEM which is cheaper ($89 sales lately) but tied to your mobo.

HI Greg,
Been away for work for a few weeks and had to get it up and running before I went away gave up on the raid. I installed to 1 drive and left it at that, installing OS is basic it was just the raid I was after. The whole boot sequence is faster on a single drive, these sata 3 drives rock!!!!!. Thanks any way for taking the time to respond, I will look out for your posts.
