Why does turning on/off a desk light wake up my PC?

I can't see a Windows option for this! When I turn off my lamp, my PC wakes up from standby. I'd rather it didn't - any 'fix'? (The PC powers from the mains via a UPS).
Thanks!

Hi
martinlest ,

Maybe it is something to do with the interference/change in the power!

That I never hear about.
- What kind of lamp you turn off (filament, electronic gas tube or electronic led)? Electronic has a rectifier that generates harmonics.
- Does the UPS has a USB cable connected to the computer to shut it down in case of a power failure? Are the UPS battery's still holding energy?

It may be caused by vibrations caused when actually turning off the light, being transferred to the mouse & waking the computer. Try turning the light off more gently or use a mouse pad to reduce vibrations being transferred to it.

Nice idea, but no, I turn it on and off at the plug, way away from the PC, where there is a little switch. It's just a desk lamp, with a common or garden light bulb (i.e. filament)... nothing special.
Does the UPS has a USB cable connected to the computer
Yes (a likely culprit?)
Are the UPS battery's still holding energy?
Yes.
Thanks

When you turn of a device, it generates a spark on the switch that generates radio frequences.
- Cover your mouse with a aluminium paper (to block RF)
- Try to detach the UPS USB cable.

The battery shows as good on the display... well, it's no big deal. I just make sure I turn the light on or off before I put the PC into standby...

If you can, lower the sensitivity on the UPS..If you have an APC brand you can do it on them..I have mine set on low..
Try also plugging the lamp into a surge outlet and not a backup outlet..
