Solved why is dnsrslvr.dll (dnscache) freezing PC every few minutes ?

For the last few months I've had this annoying glitch on my computer every 2 to 10 minutes, everything including the mouse pointer freezes or moves very slowly for 5 or 6 seconds, if I'm on my voip phone it cuts me off. Using process Explorer I've finally tracked it down to dnsrslvr.dll which says:

  • Service name: Dnscache
  • Description: The DNS Client service (dnscache) caches Domain Name System (DNS) names and registers the full computer name for this computer. If the service is stopped, DNS names will continue to be resolved. However, the results of DNS name queries will not be cached and the computer’s name will not be registered. If the service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

If I stop this service then the problem stops. Why is it doing this and how do I resolve it?
Thanks.

@archer

Clicking your link gives the OP a registry cleaner which will not solve the problem but make things worse....

@Vortechs

1.) Please uninstall that program you downloaded from control panel-uninstall a program,

And do the following:

Open Command Prompt. -Click :orb: type the word "cmd" without quotes. Click cmd

Type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit enter.

Restart the pc (even though this command is done when restarting the pc, sometimes manually doing it helps.)

Now do this:

2.) Go here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/236709-services-restore-default-services-windows-7-a.html

Download only the dns cache entry and merge the entry. Restart the PC.

3.) Now go here to this link: How can I reset the Hosts file back to the default?

Ether manually follow the steps or use the troubleshooter.
Restart the PC.

Issue should be resolved.

I would also scan your PC for malware. Scan a full scan with your antivirus, and if you do not have one download Avast which can be found in my signature. I also recommended malwarebytes in my signature as well. Update both and run a full scan. Remove anything found.

Your awesome for reading this.
Thanks, Andrew. I didn't like the look of that program either so I installed it using Revo-uninstaller so I could completely remove it once I'd tried it out.
I've run all of those successfully and scanned the pc with Malwarebytes, Avira and Spybot S&D, all clean. Unfortunately I still have the problem... :confused:
Using Process Explorer, I can see an instance of scvhost.exe that always has a PID number in the 1300's, it's listed as "Host process for windows services" If I double click on it and click the services tab, I get 5 services listed, I tried stopping each one individually and Dnscache is the only one which stops it from happening.

So did you follow the 3 steps and have done them all?

Andrew, I must have missed something when resetting the Hosts file, I ran through them again and as soon as I did the Hosts file it stopped. Thank you.
