Hello,

Yesterday at about 10pm, Google Chrome decided to stop working on my laptop. When I try to view any page on chrome or just load it up, it comes up with this message:

Unable to access the network

Google Chrome is having trouble accessing the network.

This may be because your firewall or antivirus software wrongly thinks Google Chrome is an intruder on your computer and is blocking it from connecting to the Internet.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
Error 138 (net::ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED): Unable to access the network.

I have uninstalled chrome and re-installed it but the same keeps happeneing!
Please could someone explain to me what I need to do!!

Thanks

Hi pleasehelpmeejb, welcome to 7F! :)

The description of the error, and suggestions you listed to fix Error 138 are what we are going to try and work on, but first, I need to ask some questions.

  • I see you have no idea what your OS is, but I will have to know in order to help you, so go to this tutorial: How to See System Information in Vista and Windows 7 and at the very top in Step #3 you will find the OS and version and include if your OS is updated to SP1.

  • I need to know what type of security system you have installed. Do you use or have Norton or McAffe installed? If you are unsure go to Control Panel >Programs and Features to check for sure.

  • Do you still have Chrome installed?

That's enough for now I will wait until you reply.

Also:
I noticed you asked about updating Windows here: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/69438-google-chrome-doesnt-work-anymore.html#post2253915 We can tackle that later here or back where you asked that question....

Oh, and by the way, don't be so hard on yourself, there are no stupid questions it is perfectly all-right to ask if one does not know how something should be done.

EDIT:

In conversation with UsernameIssues it was pointed out to me that your view of Control Panel may be different, and if it is you can try:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

If you can not find Control Panel try:
The win key on your keyboard + the r key >type in control panel >then touch enter

I also understand your Updating question has been answered that is why it has been struck out by me.

The reason I asked about what type of firewall or antivirus software you use is because those two are the biggest offenders to stopping Chrome from accessing the internet.
You should start by checking your settings there if you have either one or both installed.
I hope you only have one running.
