I recently installed Windows7 on a new build desktop. At the end of the installation I installed Google chrome. I have since been troubled by constant crashes and BSOD only when using Google Chrome. I have uninstalled and re-installed GC but that has not helped. I have searched diligently, but cannot determine where GC is installed. It Is in the Programs Files (X86) but I cannot find it anywhere. How can this be? Doesn't it have to be installed somewhere?

Hello Hinkydink,

On a 64-bit Windows, Chrome would install to the location below by default. :)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

As far as I'm aware that's the only place you'll ever find Google Chrome as it doesn't let you decide where to install it.

OP, if you're experiencing BSODs you should post in http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/ following http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html The crashes may well blame Google Chrome (a lot of BSODs name Chrome in the dump files) but it rarely is down to that. I personally wouldn't touch Chrome with a barge pole but that's just preference obviously.

If you have the standalone offline install of Google, one can "tell" it where to install. However, since one picks up both ends of any one stick -- I decided to uninstall it and go with the normal Google Chrome download/install.

Roland - I wish that I had gone that route.
Boozad - I have sent a report to Seven Forums on the BSOD. What do you suggest as an alternate browser to GC. I am using IE, but don't really like it.
