I just formatted my laptop a month ago and now it begins to lag in every cases especially during games. Why is that happening? I have used Tune-up 2010 but no change. Can someone help me?

Try uninstalling all programs you don't need from Programs and Features.

Check the Performance tab in Task Manager, and see how much resources you are using.

Only 1.24gb of RAM is used and the CPU usage is 5%, still don't know why it lags in most part of my work.

Here are a few tips:

  • Use a system monitoring tool to figure out what portions of your laptop are working the hardest (Everest Ultimate Edition, etc)
  • Find a program (Speed Fan) to ramp up your fans when in game.
  • Uninstall all unused programs.
  • Download maintenance programs (CCleaner, Defraggler, etc)
  • If possible, only install programs on your main hard drive, store all multimedia on an external/secondary hd.
  • Cut down on the amount of programs that run at start up.
  • Turn off Aero & other worthless visual stuff (Right Click Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Peformance > Adjust for Best Performance)
  • Turn off/reduce the amount of System Restore (By default it uses 10% of your HD)
  • Run your games at a lower resolutions and/or lower the details.

Great tips above, and anybody with a laptop should certainly do those things, but I had a similar problem caused by my own stupidity:

I slowed down my laptop by accidentally activating "Power saver" mode. It's like it capped the CPU at < 40%. I thought it was broken, but when I went back to "Balanced" or "Performance" mode, everything was fine again. I don't know how I did it, and I knew nothing about the power modes at the time. At least for my Toshiba laptop, "Power saver" means the CPU will only clock at a maximum rate, which is less than optimal.

So, I sheepishly suggest checking your power mode options. ;)

Take a look at the performance level in TuneUp 2010. It might slow your laptop down big time. ;)

You can pick up a can of compressed air and blow out your vents, that will help.
