why is there not a windows 7 64-bit discussion group?

seriouly 64-bit issues will have very little to do with 32-bit windows 7
it would really help to have a forum for 64-bit only users.

Welcome!

Most problems are either caused by the user, by programs they install, or driver issues.

For our purposes, usually x86 and x64 don't make a ton of difference. If we need to, we can ask.

Hope this helps. :)

Let us know if you have any problems, and you'll see what I mean.

Valid point, but in the long run almost all 64bit unique problems fall into 2: catagories drivers and compatability.

Other than that, most users be them 32bit or 64bit users expierience the same sorts of problems.

+1 additionally, if there were seperate forums, i think alot of X64 users would just haunt the X64 forum and all the X86 users would lose out on the knowledge and experience that those users have to offer, and vice versa of course

now sure some groups overlap 32 bit and 64-bit.
but unless you are running all 32 bit software on a 64 bit machine ( which im sure LOTS of people will do) with a 64 bit OS you see much better performance from 64-bit software.
so strip out the generic groups that having windows 7 32 or 64 had no bearing on.
and now oyu have..
Drivers
Graphic Cards
Hardware & Devices
Performance & Maintenance
Sound & Audio
Crashes and Debugging
Software

and you have forums that having 64-bit issues have near to no impact on 32-bit users and vice versa.
saying that its all windows, when Micro$oft suggests that you DONT use a 32 bit virus scanner on 64-bit windows, is a bit silly. if 64 bit worked exactly the same as 32-bit everything why even have the two editions? if the software worked the same then M$ would not bother having 64-bit builds that differ from the 32-bit versions.

just the way i look at it.

+2 Very true.....a lot of the more advanced users (builders/tweakers) do seem to use the X64 version while a lot of the preloaded laptops seem to come with the X32 version

at the moment. i do..
the few programs i dont have yet in 64-bit only, i am looking for now. the company s that have not or will not release a 64-bit version of their software will not get my business.
.
and i am only about 5 programs short of my goal.

i think alot of X64 users would just haunt the X64 forum and all the X86 users would lose out on the knowledge and experience that those users have to offer, and vice versa of course

i dont think that will happen, the people who solve problems go where they are needed. it the way they are. helpers help period.

Good point!

nope i find it massive bloat ware and dont plan on using it until they come out with a 64-bit version.

i look at porn on utube enough to care if it is around or not.

but i expect they are rushing to release it in x64 as soon as they can..

considering that most systems today are being manufactured at 64bit, I think it's a moot point that what we are discussing eventually will be the understood norm that you are referring to 64 bit.

you've just proved exactly what we are saying! how can us 64 bit users be able to answer 32 bit peoples questions unless the problems are the same? after all, when i suggest a fix, i tend to test it on my own system first to make sure it will work, and it works on both 64 and 32 bit...
