Solved WIA Missing for Epson Artisan 725 Scanner

I've searched SevenForums high and low, and while I've found several references to this problem and others like it, I haven't yet found a solution that helps me. So I'll try a new thread.

A few weeks ago I purchased my first Solid State Drive which I'm now using as my boot drive with Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate and all apps installed fresh. My system's increased speed is great.

My printer/scanner is an Epson Artisan 725 with the latest drivers installed. I connect to the Epson via WiFi. The printer is working fine -- all my apps can print via WiFi. The scanner is working via WiFi too, but only if I use proprietary Epson Scan software.

So note that both printing and scanning are working fine via WiFi on my setup. But...

On my previous Win7 64-bit installation -- all hardware the same configuration except for the new drive -- I could open Photoshop and import a picture from my Epson Artisan 725 scanner via Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). I could also scan in Windows Fax and Scan using WIA. But now WIA is missing in my fresh new Win7 installation.

When I look in Device Manager I don't see any device resembling a scanner. No "imaging devices," no "scanners and cameras," nothing at all. And there are no devices listed that have problems of any kind. No yellow triangles.

When I look under devices and printers I see my Artisan 725 listed as the default printer, but I see no scanner at all. And the Artisan 725 gives no hint of a scanner when I look at its properties.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did in my previous Win7 64-bit installation to make WIA work with my scanner. Heck, I was dual booting and I had it working in 32-bit Win7 as well as 64-bit. And making it work was a non-issue; it just worked with no help from me. But now I can't get it to work no matter what I try. I've even tried installing the Epson drivers into a fresh 32-bit Win7 Ultimate, a backup I have that doesn't even have Win7 Service Pack 1 installed, and still I can't make WIA show up again.

Yes, I can get by with what I have. I can scan using Epson Scan and then insert the scans into a Fax or into Photoshop if that's what I want to do. It's not so much that I'm unable to scan, it's that I want to figure out what it is that I did right before but can't now seem to duplicate. Anybody got any bright ideas? I'm tired of banging my head against the wall. Thanks.

I did it! I totally lucked into figuring out how to get WIA support for my Epson Artisan 725 printer/scanner. The solution turned out to be simple. All I'd been needing to do was to go into Devices and Printers and choose "Add a Device." Suddenly Windows 7 seemed to know what I wanted and it showed me a picture of the printer. Only, instead of calling it "Artisan 720 Network" as it already existed under printers, it now showed another version of the device called "Epson8C8847." I chose to install it and now WIA is working just as I wanted. I can scan directly into Photoshop and Windows Fax and Scan. Yay! And to all of you who read my note and didn't know what to say, two things: Sincere thanks for not sending me on some wild goose chase and I hope this helps somebody else! (Sure would have helped if the instructions that came with the latest Epson drivers had mentioned this required extra step.)
