Hello!

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

Background

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

It seems there is collision between Windows registry and device manager?

What can I do to repair wireless?

Thank for your help.

Hi Ron, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Try this to start

Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.

Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'

Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.

This should then allow Windows to set the required bindings.

Reset the TCP stack with these commands.

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ip reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Also, update the drivers for your wifi adapter. Drivers can be a big issue sometimes.

Hello!

I ran commands succesfully followed by Windows reboot. Unfortunately, wireless bind error still persists.

All drivers are latest ones available from Lenovo T520 driver download page.

Thank you for your help.

I have used up my resources. Last option I will suggest is to do a clean install again. But, you can wait for other experts to comment on this.

Ok... Hold your breath.

Issue was resolved by installing Cisco VPN Client. Quite interesting.

1) Removed WAN Miniport IP and PPTP adapters (http://www.sevenforums.com/network-...-can-t-reinstall-please-help.html#post1847855 steps 1-8). Used ccleaner for registry cleanup after removals.

2) Installed Cisco VPN Client. Rebooted Windows and WLAN started to work perfectly.

3) Installed drivers removed on 1) using devcon.exe.

devcon install C:\Windows\inf\netrasa.inf MS_PptpMiniport
devcon install C:\Windows\inf\netrasa.inf MS_NdisWanIp

After reboots system works perfectly.

Thank you, but not all those steps may be needed

I had a similar problem with an Advent Roma 2001 notebook PC running Windows 7 - its Realtek wireless adapter wouldn't work, with the same diagnostic error message and the usual fixes ineffective; the Realtek Ethernet adapter did work although the device often needed to be uninstalled/re-installed. Installation of the Cisco VPN client fixed the problem - uninstalling the WAN Miniport IP and PPTP adapters wasn't needed. The problem remained fixed when the Cisco VPN client was uninstalled.

Many thanks, this saved me from having to do a repair installation.

Wow -- Cisco VPN install fixed my wireless adapter that wasn't showing

I had tried everything then found this thread. Thanks for posting the VPN install! All I did (after doing all the other steps (resetting TCP/IP stack, replace winsock catalog, release/renew, flush DNS resolver cache) was to search for a free download (Cisco no longer supporting), bring it down, run it, reboot.

wow wow. Who would've thunk. I've spent way too much time on this one but I soooo appreciate your posting the solution!

thanks again.

VPN is the key

Thank you Ron. I came across the usual tortures (reinstall drivers, etc) when I found this thread.
You inspired the solution that worked for me. I had Checkpoint VPN client installed. I just uninstalled it, and WiFi started to work. Reinstall didn't hurt.
Probably managing VPN client adjusts some deeply hidden setting in Windows.

VPN Solution still saving the day...

It's a good thing these old threads remain...Ron's solution just saved me from doing an arduous clean Windows install that would have involved migrating / reinstalling countless customizations / applications, etc. I spent 3 straight days trying every conceivable solution to get the WiFi working (LAN adapter worked fine) after moving my SSD with Windows 7 64bit from an MSi Laptop with a bad MB into a used EliteBook 8540w. I was preparing a fresh install when I came upon this thread and gave the Cisco VPN install a try...and it worked! Stayed working after the Cisco VPN client was uninstalled.

Joined the board just to say thanks!
