Solved WiFi works, ethernet doesn't

I just moved and have been trying to get my PC connected to the internet at my new place. I have a Dlink AC750 dual band wireless router, and my computer has no problem connecting to it wirelessly. However I cannot figure out how to connect directly by ethernet. I have a cable running from the router to the back of the PC, but the icon in my tray just says 'No connections are available'. I have also tried connecting directly to the PC bypassing the router. Everyone I have spoken to, including tech support, has told me that you "plug it in and it just works". Am I missing some step in getting my PC to recognize the ethernet cable? :shock:

Hello mate have you tried updating the LAN driver for that machine and even simpler a new cable??

Hello, Computer right click Properties-Device manager-is the tree expanded at network adapters.
Perhaps you need to uninstall and re-install a LAN driver.
Windows Explorer-right click Network-properties-Change adapter settings.
Make sure your LAN cable is plugged in.
Find the Wi-Fi adapter that is supplying your connection and right click-Disable.
Re-boot and you should connect via LAN.
You can reverse this process back to Wi-Fi if needed.

This is embarrassing, I was sure I had a LAN driver installed but I actually didn't. Problem is resolved.

Yes mate an often encountered problem and not really obvious when the thing has been working previously. So whenever I have issues like that I always head for the updates for drivers.
