will my pc run windows 7?

i'm thinking of upgrading from xp to windows 7 due to people saying its meant to be better, my system specs are:

processor: 2.4GHZ
RAM: 1.5GB
graphics: nvidea geforce 6200,512mb

btw my parents netbook's handling windows 7 so i should think mine should right?

Is your processor dual-core or single core? That will make a big difference.

1. Post a screencap of your computer's basic info. Right click on My Computer, and click properties.
2. Make/model of your computer? (I.e. Dell Inspiron 1545)

That'll give us a better picture of what you're running.

i'm pretty sure it has hyperthreading, i mean a mate said it depends what version i pick really.

i keep my computer quick with the following program's aswell:

ccleaner
defragment
disk cleanup.

also if you want i can post my upgrade advisor results, maby that will help aswell?

I would recommend thinking about more RAM in the future, but your computer should run W7 32bit just fine. You won't be able to run 64 bit windows with that processor, however.

If you wouldn't mind too much, there is a program called speccy, by piriform, that would give us detailed information about your hardware, without revealing any personal information, that would be good. I would also try the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

I will also discourage the use of ccleaner in windows 7.

Excellent post with one exception. Ccleaner is awesome on Seven or Vista, just dont use the registry portion.

ok there's my results, i know my pc's not the fastest but i reckon it could do a good job.

yes i have got a disc drive it's just not connected lol, i have no use for it atm.

It's a single core, running at 2.4GHz flat. Hyperthreading is between 2 or more cores. Also, I see you have the classic theme running to get better performance. I'd have to say I can't recommend this computer for Windows 7. It may be able to basically handle Starter or Home Edition, but you would likewise have to strip it down. You'd get better performance out of your machine sticking with the setup you have. Unless you could upgrade to more ram or other components, sorry.

oh no i didnt change the visual because of performance, i changed it because i like the way it looks lol i should of mentioned that.

Oh. In that case if you'd like to stick with the classic look, then that takes the entire load of graphic-intensive-prettiness of the cpu's hands. It should run just as smoothly as XP is for you. ^__^'

thats good to hear i mean 512mb graphics memory should be sufficient enough to handle aero due to microsoft stating that its 128mb for the aero glass theme.

LiquidSnak is probably trying to see if your motherboard will hold any more RAM. With stock PCs, the motherboard will be specific to the model.

What number is it, and I can look up the service manual? Dell doesn't have motherboard specifications handy.

already checked mine can hold 2gb ram maximum so i basically just need another 512mb to complete the 2gb allowance . i might get windows 7 that supports aero but not the main ones like home premium or w.e it is.

DDR and four ram slots so i would probably take the one of the 512's away and replace with a 1gb stick or something.

If your board supports 2 GB with four slots, it only supports 512 in each slot.

Do you know the maximum frequency, and whether you need buffered or unbuffered RAM?

best i could find out is:

Memory capacities:

128-MB, 256-MB, 512-MB, or 1-GB non-ECC

my parents netbook handles 7 starter as i said and there's is intel atom.
