Hi all, so will this laptop run GTA IV?
Here are the specs:
Intel® CoreTM i3-2310M 2.10GHz
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
English (QWERTY)
NVIDIA® GeForce® 410M GPU 1GB
500 GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
4 GB 1333MHz DDR3-SDRAM

Although some laptops do OK with lower settings and resolutions with some games, in general,
a laptop is not really meant for gaming.

GTA4 can be quite demanding, even on PCs that are specifically built for gaming.


My best guess is, at best, it will struggle even at lower settings.

GTA 4 System Requirements

You should be able to play, but beware of overheating during gameplay, especially if you run at higher settings. Also, the Core i's are more efficient than the Core 2's so your 2.1 GHz should go a bit further. Your GPU, while not the fastest should play this game at least at lower settings.

You should be able to run GTAIV, but at the lower settings. the Laptop 400 Series chips aren't really that great in my opinion.

Do you think it would play the game on lowest settings without overheating or lag?

It will have some lag according to your specs, but you could try it and see, have you already bought the game or are you deciding to buy it? As for overheating and such just make sure your on a hard surface like a table and keep the fans and stuff blown out with compressed air and never play with the fans smothered like on a bed or on you lap...

Edit: The main issue I'm seeing is the size of the HDD and the rpm of it, I would like to see 7200rpm with at least two partitions on the drive of 160gb for the operating system and program and the other just for and 340gb for storage. Or have an ssd installed then I don't think you would have a problem at all.

Play EFLC, it runs much better than GTA 4. Those extra frames per second would really help on a laptop like yours.

Do you know what the difference between GTA IV and EFLC? And I havent bought the laptop or the game yet, are there any OTHER and better laptops that will run GTA IV smoothly for under £500?

EFLC contains the The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony... DLC. Its ported more efficiently, so it runs better. For general gameplay, play EFLC over GTA 4.

Hmm, graphically wise, yes but not in full pretty glory. Intel graphics cards are bleh for gaming. But then again, I ran GTA 4 on my integrated ATI Radeon 3000 at decent levels.

So basically, yes it can, but not terribly great, maybe at 800x600 pixel resolution or maybe 1024x768 if you're lucky.

No, it won't even at low settings, the game might not ever run at all, integrated graphics such as the GMA series are very poor at processing huge amounts of texture.
Forget about gaming on such a laptop, no modern games will ever run at a reasonable performance
Any card using shared memory is useless for gaming

But if you want to do some gaming get a laptop with dedicated graphics

Nope. Only desktops will be able to play GTA 4 decently with that price range.

On youtube I saw someone playing GTA IV and their laptop was a Packard Bell Easy Note TJ65? I just took a look at it and it looked quite good and ran quite well...

GTA 4 runs fine on my laptop on ALL high settings, just no shadows, as that kills it for me. I could have it on, but would have to reduce texture quality, view distance, ect.

Dude, that laptop (Packard Bell Easy Note TJ65) is much worser than the laptop you are thinking of getting. Its got Intel graphics, and a Pentium CPU. Show me the vid plz. Also, just so you know, the Intel HD 3000 graphics are better than the 410M. Sandy Bridge CPU's only.

A gaming laptop will usually cost more than 1000USD, save your money and get a desktop instead.
