Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear enough, I play cod on Xbox, and minecraft on my PC. I want to use an Xbox controller on my PC so I can play minecraft with it. Obviously I already own a controller, but if I were to get a second one I would want it to work with both my PC (minecraft) AND Xbox (cod splitscreen). Sorry for any confusion.

Yes, you should be able to...you'll have to install the Microsoft Controller driver for X360 GamePad from their site HERE.

Make sure to Plug onto USB2.0 port because the MS X360 Controller Driver for Windows looks not liking that USB3.0 port much.

I use an Xbox controller for parts of several games and have never had a problem with it. I just plugged it in and Windows installed the drivers. Maybe for some games a driver may be required, but none that I use it on.

EDIT: OK I lied. I just tried it on another game, it didn't work. The game is set up for the mouse and keyboard. Maybe a driver and resetting the controls would work. I usually only use it for driving and flying. It works fine then.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Which do you think would be better for my situation? I could get a wireless receiver for pc, and use the wireless controller that I've got now. This would be cheaper, but debatebly less convienet because of having the receiver and the controller lying about.
The wired controller would be better, but the cable length would limit how far away I could play.
A second wireless controller, would not be limited by cable length but like the first option would have the bulk of a receiver.
Thanks for your opinions.

unless you plan on having two player games and need two pads, then i would go with the one you already have, this would be easier as there would be only one gamepad laying around hence less bulk.
the receiver is quite small about 2½ inches by 1½ inch.
i find wired controllers a pain as there is all that cable to trip over, catch on things , and tie you a certain distance from the computer

You give a convincing arguement, but! I heard that some of the drivers used to make the buttons on the controller do things that the keyboard does only works with the wired controller.
How to play Minecraft with an Xbox 360 controller! - YouTube

Is this true? Or does it depend on the software or what? Thanks again.

I do prefer Wired over Wireless only because of it responses better and signal, since the wired cord is so long. I mean i 'm not that far from my screen monitor and doesn't play on a bigger TV screen.

OK, thanks I think I will go with the wired one, even if it is a bit more expensive. Thanks again.
