Hi All I recently update my old XP computer to a new i5 Win7 Pro 64 bit computer. Current I have 16gb of ram install in the system. However I never seen Win use more then 3.5gb of ram. I try loading multiple programs/game and never reboot the system for 1 week and still the ram used never pass 3.5 gb.

Is there a way to get Win7 use more of the installed ram? I read that 32bit win have a 4 gb limitation but I have 64 bit...?

At work so can't check that right now. But I think I know what your talking about. I saw some screen shot in here from other user show something like "4.00GB(3.00GB Usable)". I double check this morning about this and my screen say under Installed memory (RAM): 16.00GB

Know what...you do not have a problem. Just use the system...just use it.
Overtime the Standby cache will fill up as you use the computer.

You just have so much RAM it is going to be hard to find enough applications that take advantage of it.
I mean, when an application uses over 200 MB people throw a frickin fit...trying to save their RAM from use.

logicearth is correct - most apps do not need GB's of ram.

I have the opposite problem - my software eats ram eg After Effects, Premiere Pro and Cinema 4D. I can easily max out 12GB. The only reason I don't fill my machines with 32GB each is that it affects the overclock.

MemAlloc|Free memory allocation stress test for Windows. Heavy memory load simulation

This program allows you to allocate x amount of ram to use for stress testing if your not convinced it's running correctly. This will let you know if the system is capable or not of using the full ram (don't allocate too much remember your already using some).

HI Duzzy just download the program but it say "Your verison of Windows limits the amount of contiguous Ram..... each copy of MemTest can test 2047MB of Ram..." So Win7 does put a limited? Sorry I'm new to win 7 and never working with some much Ram.

NV i ran 6 of them at the same time and got all 16 gb used up thank you all.

When testing memory compacities I use Testlimit from Mark Russinovich who is a Technical Fellow (actual title!) at Microsoft. Comes in both flavors 32-bit and 64-bit. You may also want to read "Pushing the Limits of Windows" series.

I agree with logicearth when he says you don't have a problem, eventually a lot of that RAM will be used, not all but a lot.

You also might want to read this article - Windows 7 memory usage: What's the best way to measure? | ZDNet - I'll help you understand what's going on in your memory usage.

Anyway you're good, and Windows is seeing all 16gig of you memory, so as been said, sit back, relax, and enjoy the system.

Good luck.

mad duce, there's nothing wrong with your computer, you have 16GB of ram installed, windows sees 16GB, period. Prefetch by the other hand is not using all the available ram because thats whow it works by design, start loading more apps and leave your computer turned on the longest you can, so prefetch learns your usage habits and use more ram to cache your stuff.
