Hello, ive been having a system freeze where as the mouse, keyboard and even Ctrl-Alt-Delete function is not executable or not responding. Everything looks normal on screen until you actually go to use the OS. In other words you wouldn't know it was frozen just by looking at what ever is on screen, whether it be the desktop or firefox browser.

To try and fix the problem ive recently used Win 7's "only" 'quick' format process. (Not my fav but no other choice). The problem will still occur.

1st instance before format. Browsing internet random freeze for no apparent reason.
2nd instance before format. Browsing internet clicked a open tab of the about 4 i had open, freeze.
3rd instance before format. No browser open just on desktop no programs running, go to move mouse freeze again.
Final and fourth time after format thinking problem may have been resolved. Unusual occurrence. When I went to shut down the PC I noticed that the All programs tap was highlighted Orange!? Knew this was not normal, went back to desktop right clicked then left clicked (out of habit im a older windows user) too see if the right click menu would pop up with no lag. Did this about 2 more times then went to click on the windows circle start button and again a system freeze.

Is there any program that i can use that keeps a system log of everything that goes on during normal operation of the OS that will give me a crash report? I would really like to know what is goin on.
Thank you for any help.

2 things that come to mind on this one; one is the amount of ram you have while enough to start windows; may not be enough to run windows with all those things you listed open. If you can i would consider upgrading the amount of ram you have. Also I would try instead of doing a quick format; Do a complete thorough format and completely wipe the drive clean and do a clean install of windows again. Doing this should hopefully help to resolve the issue(s) by starting fresh. For steps etc. on how to do this look at my signature for the link that says clean install and follow those steps.

Hi, thank you for your response. Two things, one being that the freezes some times occur when i have no programs running. Its just open to the desktop and when i go to move the mouse i find that the OS is frozen.

Another thing, thank you for the link. I took a look at it and as far as my memory serves ive never been able to do a Full format. The kind that takes a bit of time and scans your sectors for errors along with many other things i assume. This has always been a concern for me on win 7 due to it only wanting to perform a quick format. Im trying to remember exactly what it is that its does i just know that the options are either not click able or just not there at all.
The link does say: WARNING: You may not have the Drive options (advanced) option unless the installation is done at boot, and not running the installation from within your current OS.
Im not positive as to what this means. But ive never run format from my OS ive always done it by the CD. Am i simply thinking that its from the CD and not the OS?

Does a crash log of any type or program exist to monitor these kinds of things in windows? I would assume that an OS such as windows 7 would have such a capability available to use?
