Win 7 crash from uTorrent I think...

Ok, after doing a little testing using different configurations here is what I have found...

Test 1
------
No AV, Normal Windows, with music playing and while watching uTorrent to see what happends. It freezes after about a minute into a download. Everything simply stops and the sound gets stuck so the only option left is to reboot. I repeated this test and got the same result but noted something. The green tick in the bottem bar of uTorrent that shows the connection status changes to a red cross showing no connection right before the PC hangs.

Test 2
------
No AV, Safe Mode with Networking, no music playing as audio does not work and watching uTorrent. It freezes after about a minute into a download. Only option is to reboot. I also ran this test twice to see what happens and the PC froze after about 3-5 minutes into a download. The green tick at the bottem of uTorrent did not change to a red cross in both repetitions of this test so im sure that doesnt mean anything.

Windows Reliability monitor doesn't list todays tests for some strange reason and nothing odd pops up in event viewer. Can anyone help. I will try use a differnet torrent client and see if the problem continues.

Did you find a solution to this? I'm having the same issues!

(Running Utorrent in XP mode seems like a good temporary fix)

I can confirm from earlier posts, for some people utorrent doesn't go well with W7 in combination with particular network cards.

For others it works fine.

Good luck

Sorry for the late reply, I did manage to solve the problem and it was the wireless card drivers. I used older drivers and they worked without a problem, the older drivers were from 2005 I think. Try installing older drivers instead of newer ones. I think that is the solution. It has worked for me for 2 weeks now no problems :D.

G'day Sapper123.

I'm having the same problem you had and I've been looking for an older version (2005) of the DWA-510 driver software.

However, I can't seem to find it :(.

So if you or anyone else for that matter could please provide me with a link to a 2005 version of the DWA-510 driver, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Knew it all along, this same exact problem has been coming up since Jan. This has been by far the biggest problem that users have dealt with when upgrading to Windows 7. Utorrent just reveals the problem but it certainly is not the cause. The only fix seems to be going back to Vista or XP drivers or wait longer for new drivers that work correctly.

I had same problem with uTorrent. For me helps when I changed power settings to "do not turn off anything" on AC. I didn't test yet which option cause BSOD but I think it was turnig off HDD.

Ok for some reason the drivers that came with the Dlink cd caused the problem with uTorrent but older drivers that i found online from 2005 worked, thats old news, but using these drivers for a few months I have seen that since they are so old they give problems like random timeouts and high latency when I ping'ed my router. So I went searching the net to find some better drivers and I stumbled on to this page --> D-Link | Technical Support | Downloads

These are the latest drivers released for all Dlink network cards straight from Taiwan. Needless to say I was very happy when I saw a driver released somewhere in October of this year which fully supports Windows 7 x86 and x64 versions :) Go here and try it out yourself, look for the driver version 1.40, thats the latest I think. Using this driver my uTorrent problems didn't reappear and my timeout and high latency problems also disappeared :) I think these drivers are perfect at the moment, I haven't had any problems with them, try them out and see if it solves your problems.

utorrent and spotify freeze my pc

I'm having this same problem. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and whenever I open utorrent or spotify, after about 10 minutes the whole PC freezes and I have to take the power out. I'm not using a wireless card, just the ethernet port on my motherboard.

These are my specs:

Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
Asus Motherboard P5K SE LGA775
6GB of RAM
Asus Extreme 8600GT 256MB DDR3
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Series

All my drivers are up to date.

Is this the only way to fix it? In another thread there was a guy with the same problem which went away when he started using wireless. Am I going to have to make some change like that?

Thank you!

Yo Doyle789,

Changing your internet to wireless isn't necessarily going to solve the problem.

I've only ever used wireless internet and I still had this problem.

I tried to look for a solution and used google to upgrade every driver I could think of but nothing seemed to work.

As such, I decided to use a windows xp driver for my wireless card and this solved the problem, however, it presented itself with a new problem..

While my computer no longer froze my internet had huge lag spikes and often disconnected.

In the end I found that every windows 7 driver I downloaded off the internet for my wireless card caused my computer to freeze, so I decided to upgrade my driver manually from the computer and have it search for the updated driver itself. I don't know why but this seemed to solve the problem.

Help!

Hey guys... I'm new to forums but i just gotta share with you this in hope that you will help me out here.

I too am encountering problems with uTorrent on Windows 7 x64. After a couple of mins downloading, my computer freezes and ONLY option is to power down. The sad thing is.... im using a Wireless adsl router from D-link ( DSL- 2470B -C4 SEA version).

Id really appreciate it if you have any opinions on this matter.

P.S; like all others... i too have detected the culprit which is uTorrent by using the elimination process using SafeMode+Networking. Tried older versions of uTorrent but to no avail...

I use windows 7 ultimate x64. I started trying versions of utorrent from newer to older one from 2.2 up to 1.8 they all crashed after about 30 seconds. Finally, 1.7.7 (build 8179) worked fine, and oh, I checked run in windows vista compatibility.

After a lot of testing by going to safe mode, safe mode with internet. Putting graphics card in taking graphics card out, putting d-link wireless card in, taking wireless card out etc. It seems that the problem lies in the D-link card.
The problem was masked because both cards were in.
System is running at the moment but without the D-Link AWA510EU Adapter.
(I am on my laptop to get into the Internet.
So now the problem has been isolated to the D-link.
I have downloaded the drivers but that does not fix the problem.
So I agree with the other guys. The D-Link does seem to pose a problem.

Hi guys, i started using utorrent 3.1, i got hacked . after a few minutes of downloading i recieved requests to allow other users to access my network, when i denied them access my speed went down to eventually shutting down my ISP. i ended up reinstalling utorrent 1.8.2 and haven't had any problems since. so don't use 3.1 it's nothing but trouble.....
