Hello everyone,

This might be alittle long but here it goes.
I was using my Sony Vaio laptop, intel core i5 vpceg and decided to move into the other room. I moved to the other room and sat down and the computer froze, so I rebooted it..Comes back on with a error( i forgot the error code) it was the error code that basically was a communication error with the HD. So i made sure the HD was secure and nothing changed. I could use restore or anything at all, it just booted saying the error code so I messed around just trying to reload windows and what not. I finally reached a point where I was able to format my HD and reinstall so I preceeded to do that. The entire system just froze and when I restarted it it went to saying their was no OS found...I figured that much.

The computer is right at a yr old, I have 3 recovery disks that were made for it when I bought the computer from best buy(or something like that) So i tried using them and it would take me to restore function(i think) and windows 7 ( had a choice to choose from) either one I chose It would just hang their.

I finally made a bootable flash drive with windows 7 Home on it but I made it using a win xp computer (older). I went back to my bios on the laptop and unable the external thing ( not network) and made sure it booted from external 1st then the HD then cd in that order. I plugged my thumb drive in and rebooted..things were happening and I was happy but after hrs of waiting and restarting..its just hanging at "Setup is Starting" Please..is their anything to fix this?

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Boot into BIOS setup to see if HD is detected. If so run HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to assure its condition. If unsure of the brand HD, google the serial showing in BIOS or look on the HDD itself.

Next boot into BIOS again to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

thanks for the really fast response. I will update this thread when finished :)

Never had that problem with the boot cd, just choose the resolution and hit enter.

Do you mean by no devices, no hard drives are found ? Can you get into the bios to see if your hard drive is detected ?

What does this mean? How would anyone know what you're trying to say? If Vista actually runs after it loads then install CrystalDiskInfo - Software to read the HD SMART data.'

Then run the HD diagnostics from Windows.

If Vista won't start, reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Then try booting the disks: How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube
