Win 7 Home Pre Edi - Not Restarting and Not Updating

Hi All,
I have Dell Studio Win7 Home Premium.I have been following issues from last one week and need your help or expert opinion to resolve this.

1. When i try to restart or Shutdown then it get stuck to "Configuring Updates" or "Shutting Down" for long hours around say 10 hrs or more and in the end i have to press power button to start my laptop again.
Due to this i m not able to install any software as system is not restarting thus not updating any files i guess.

2. Windows Update not working - getting Code 8008005 error.

Please help to resolve both the issues, its seems to me both issues root cause is same but i m not able to rosolve.
