Win 7 install. Missing or corrupt file

Hello...

I have a problem installing Win 7 Ultimate 64. I have several different Win 7 disks that I've tried to use. I can get all the way to where it starts to install but after it says copying win files, goes to install it stays at 0% and I get the error message "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart. Error Code 0x80070017"

The reason I'm doing an install is because the computer wouldn't boot up anymore. I tried just about everything to fix the bootmgr using Hirems Boot utilities including BCD but to no avail. Finally I just decided to wipe the drive. That might be my mistake instead of just of formatting it. Here is what is listed during the win 7 install as my Hard drives/Partitions:

1. "Disk 0" "Partition 1" "100mb 86mb free" "System"

2."Disk 0" "Partition 2" "298mb 297 free" "Primary" (this is the drive i wiped and had win 7 ultimate installed on. Was my C:.)

3. "Disk 1" "Partition 1" "100mb" 11mb free "System"

4. "Disk 1" "Partition 2" "Backup" "465.7GB Free" "132.9 Free" "Primary" (Most of my C: drive data is back up on here. Its a Hitachi 500GB)


I just bought an external 500gb if i use that to help this install... Thanks,

However, looking at the information you've posted so far, it looks like you've got two 100Mb boot partitions: one on Drive 0 and one on Drive 1.

I would suggest you delete Partition 1 on Drive 1 then install Windows on Drive 0, which is where it should go. It won't hurt to delete the two partitions on Drive 0, create a new one for your operating system and Windows will automatically create a new 100MB boot partition at the start of the drive, which is where Windows would expect to find it.

You have two drives connected - drive 0 and drive 1. Remove one of them (I suggest keeping the drive attached to sata0 or ide0, as I don't know if you have a sata or ide drive), then reinstall the OS. If you are using a DVD drive, try using another one to install, or copy the files over to a usb flash drive and install from that (search for my recent posts, I posted a link to instructions on how to do that). I've seen the corrupted file issue before, and it was caused by a faulty DVD drive.

Follow Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a clean all to Disk 0 and I would suggest you create and mark active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to using Step Two #2 of the same tutorial.

Repairing Win7 is automated using Startup Repair from the Installation DVD or Repair CD so there is no need to use dated XP methods to attempt to manually repair BCD using Hiren's boot disk, although you can use it to copy out your files.

If unable to repair you can reimage if the backup you referred to is an image, using DVD Repair console or Repair CD.

Did Cyberpower provide you with the Recovery DVD or Win7 Reinstallation DVD? Try booting this to see if it will clean reinstall. You may need to wipe the HD first.

Otherwise find a Win7 retail installer for your version to clean reinstall with the Product Key on COA sticker, following these steps to get a perfect clean reinstall of Factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

I had an SSd installed and i removed the HDD in my dell inspirion computer about 4 months ago and today my computer frozed and i decided to restart it I got an error saying WINDOWS COULDN'T START BECAUSE OF SYSTEM MISSING OR CORRUPTED FILES. Well after trying to fix my computer for hours nothing wouldn't do. and because i removed the HDD the OS CD wouldn't read by the SSD so that fixing was not in the works. and of course the computer didn't say REPAIR on the top as some instructions say it should have. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I opened my computer and attached the old HDD to it and pop in the OS disk and believe me the computer started in SAFE MODE. I then removed the HDD and took out the OS disk, turn on the computer and it booted up with the SSD as before. That's how i fix my corrupted or missing files, because there is nothing you can do as the computer is stock on that screen and you can't even get a COMMAND PROMPT, SAFE MODE, NORMAL START OR AN ADVANCE START before the computer crashed.
