I have two drives, !st with XP PRO SP3 installed. I'm going to do a clean install on it.
A second drive with a partition for Win 7-7048. I've attempted two installs [dual boot, once with XP and one with Vista.
Each install has stopped at the same spot. When Win 7 is finished copying files and does it's 1st boot, at the point it gets to boot from CD.....It stops, just a cursor. It will let you boot a CD but it will go no further. I can't access either drive.
I.I've tried a lot of things to get either to load. Install repair on Win 7. MBR repairs, boot loaders, every utility known to man that doesn't wipe out XP-I'm stubborn.
I'm going to wipe out xp on this rig, but I want to know what I'm doing wrong.

I've seen somewhere, that if your BIOS has an AHCI/RAID feature for IDE/SATA drivers, you must set it to AHCI or Windows 7 will give you this error at first boot...Not sure if it applies here but you could give it a try.

I don't recall that option and you can bet I will look for it the next time I go in. I need this rig up until I get a laptop repaired! :) I don't think I could work on a computer w/o access to the web!

Well, nowadays, a computer w/o access to the web is like a mobile phone without network coverage....

I had to go take a look and in bios, sata is either enable/disable so is raid. Maybe there is a choice during install but I don't recall it.

No, not during install. If it's not in BIOS, then it doesn't apply to you.

You might want to change the hard disks boot order in bios though. Make the one you install W7 to be the first hard disk in Bios boot order. You might have to perform again an install to see any changes.
