Thank you
I did not know there were 2 viewing options, I found the upper right selection change click to switch
I clicked "adjust system volume" got a box eventually with thee Volume sliders in a box called "volume mixer" left Device speakers on high but/and turned system sounds and monzilla both down to zero

should/will this shut down all sounds except movies and CD, mp3's etc ?

thanks

All your system sounds are in the Sounds tab. See image.

System sounds would do it all in one go too I guess. In all the years I've used Windows 7 I never used it.

Just click the speaker icon in the task bar and select "mixer" for your main audio card.

Sounds like you did exactly this, but in a different manner. Yes, that should disable all system sounds.

yes I found system sounds, and somewhere turned start up sounds off, it still dings at start up and computer program change alarms, but all the other ding bat absurd sounds are off, ha ha ha , I am a real music lover and I don't want to become a Si-Fi creature and start thinking these noises are nature.

I just got my seven and thank you all for bringing me up to speed.

Simpilot, so you know, if you do a restore point that will or at least on my machine reset those sound buttons, I found a detailed click off of each sound and just clicked them all off and hit apply
not a single peep since.
