Are members able to recommend a specs sheet for a new build of W7
I have bought W7 Pro retail DVDs, and need to build a desktop to suit
(Any members from West Aust welcome to build for me)
Best appropriate MB, SSD HDD, USB slots, lots of RAM.
Agile Win 7 Computer user, technically inept.
Thank you very much.

A lot depends on your requirements and budget.

MS tried to prevent users from updating win7 on machines with processors more recent than Skylake
( skylake start with a 6 . e.g. i5-6400 ). A way around that artificial restriction was quickly found, and is not really relevant now, as most people use simplix pack for updates.

There are drivers for more recent intel gpu graphics
need driver for intel uhd620
The poster on that thread has a whiskeylake cpu ( kind of laptop version of coffeelake - which start with an 8 e.g. i5-8600 ) . So the intel coffeelake generation of machines should be fairly straightforward for win7 .

The on cpu graphics for recent amd processors ( which they call apu ) has been solved
Forum - [Solution] Win 7/Win8.1 x64 Ryzen APU Video driver(Update 2020.07.13 Vulkan/OpenCL API support!)

Win7 didn't come with native usb3 or nvme support, however there are updates for that.
Update your Win 7 installation media

There are a few very recent mobos that only have efi3 ( with no csm support). Though geeks might run win7 on those, for most people, avoiding them is best. The vast majority of mobos still have csm support.

Thank you SIW2, I am indebted,.
Your reply means absolutely nothing to me, I have however, printed it out and shall pass onto
the techie, if I can find one to build my W7 machine
Budget is of no consequence.

Requirements are fairly simple, I wish to run early software, that I am affectionately attached to after 10 years or so of hassle free computing

MS Works (v4.5)
ACDSee v2.4
Duck link capture
Speccy
Clicktray calendar
XY Plorer
Fastone Image Viewer
Agent ransack
Picasa
and sundry small programs for my Philatelic hobby

No doubt your advice will certainl advance my quest...........
