Brink; thanks. My Dell XPS is a 32 bit system. I have finally found the information on migrating from 32B to 64B and the answer is in the above link.
Brink, more info; I bought my computer in 2007 from Dell. It was a (XPS) Vista Machine and I told them I wanted XP not Vista, because of the problems with Vista. They hesitated but when I told them I would look elsewhere they sold me the system.
Obviously their new Intel dual core processors are capable of running 32 or 64 bit systems. As my system met migration from 32 to 64B and drivers were updated, to my last piece of hardware, everything is now working. I'm not sure where you are but I will invite you to come and witness my computer operating a 64B system.
The fact of the upgrade not having the ability to migrate 32 to 64B is no surprise, the upgrade is least expensive and a giveaway for most recent systems, (until final release), why would Microsoft shoot themselves in the foot? Not when there's money to be made!
Thanks again,
Fred
Fred, we have been telling you the whole time that you would only be able to do a clean install as in the tutorials below when going from a 32-bit operating system (ex: Vista or Windows 7) to a 64-bit operating system. That link that you had posted is just telling you the same thing. It has always been like this for any operating system, and not just the ones that Microsoft makes.
