Win 7 REFUSES to allow Networking with my XBOX360 .....

Welp I just disabled every firewall I had on my machine and you know what that did? Nothing? I mean seriously, I am an average user, and I can't get something this simple to work, unacceptable, this is in no way my fault and I guarantee the average user has major issues as well. My computer sees the xbox, the xbox sees the computer but I cannot access any files for more then a few seconds. This is maddening, XBOX360 cannot talk to a windows computer, pathetic.

I wish I could help. I have the post just above yours. I have an internet radio that's "seen" by Windows, is registered and "allowed" but the radio can't "see" my Win 7 Network so I'm stuck too! Good luck in getting this resolved!

Still having issues, works one second, dies the next, no reason why.

i THINK it may have to do with the computer, it can't be doing anything, god forbid you try any multitasking in this day and age. Just a crappy OS I believe, just crap.

OS Is Fine

The OS is fine remember new OS old hardware has always been a problem if you get a new OS get new hardware designed to work with said OS....not to say you can't get older hardware to work yes you can for the most part but I find people would try to use the same hardware through every new OS and only buy new hardware when forced to.

If this really was an OS issue everyone would suffer from the same issue and that's just not the case and in a lot of cases doing things like upgrading your existing OS to a newer version is always a disaster it just should not be done period....and a lot of people I see here are truly confused as to what a clean install is.

I am sorry you are having problems and everyone here will try to help so just be patient... answers to computer problems can be hard to come up with sometimes due to all the variables involved.

Well I goot it to work, and half way through my movie it just loses a connection, for no ****ing reason what so ever, just cuts off an says HEY THERE IS NO CONNECTION.

Just sh1t, that is what I have purchased again.

Plugged straight in, oh the computer sees it. Then it just refuses to recognise. If I shut off my computer, pray, reset the XBOX, the pray again, I can stream movies for a little bit. Then it just losses connection for no reason.

Oh I am sorry it is an N Router. Everything sees everything. I think Windows Vista and Now 7 had huge issues and the firewall just attacks everything. It is just so vague in blocking the XBOX but does so consistantly. It has been a constant issue since vista and 7.

The Xbox is hard wired and so is the computer into a Netgear N Router Model WNR2000.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1

On the computer running Windows 7 click the following:

Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet

Step 2

Select "Home Group and Sharing Options"

Step 3

Click "change advanced sharing settings"

Step 4

Under "Media Streaming" click "Choose Media Streaming Options"

Step 5

Click "Turn on media streaming"

Step 6

You will now have the option to name your media library if you want to, but is not necessary

Step 7

Click "Choose Default Settings". You can choose star ratings and parental controls here if you want to, and then click "OK". You are now done with setting up the PC.

Step 8

Turn on your XBOX 360 and go to the "My Xbox Channel" and select "Music", "Photos", or "Video" library.

Step 9

Select your pc from the list and the file you wish to play

Router Firewall

you are aware that there is a firewall in the router that could be causing this issue as well you might try logging into the router and disable the firewall just as a test to see if the issue levels out if so then you have isolated the issue and can re enable the firewall with a lesser setting that will allow sharing

WAY WAY WAY Ahead of you. I have done all of this. I am now on hold with Microtheft as we speak (type). I have done everything I can do way beyond my understanding. My point is that it should not be this hard. Everyone I call to help me points their finger at one another and I am left holding the bag. Again I point out Apple does none of this. IDk why I am torturing myself like this I am so livid

I have followed some of your other posts and it seems you are having several issue have you considered starting from scratch and doing a format and reinstall to get everything back to square one I think when you figure this out it will be some stupid little thing that got overlooked maybe not but that's what usually happens.

you could have an issue with the XBOX itself I have had some screwy things with mine happen and unplugged it plugged it back in reset the date and time and it's fine i have had to do that twice since I have had it in the last year

Thank you so much for your quick responses. I just updated the firmware on my router so maybe that'll help. Who knows but it was old.

It syncs up, allows me to play Video, then just loses the connection for no reason. The sound cuts and you just get video, you try to rewind and nothing doing. Then you just lose the connection. Windows Media Center Somehow works (EXTREMELY SLOWLY I MIGHT ADD) but sees nothing but sample media videos and pictures and nothing I downloaded or any of my music, no idea why.

Then it just works again..... then it stops....then it works again......then it stops.....simmer for three years.

It actually was a combination of Vista and 7. I did warranty my Xbox, i DID purchase a new router and had my entire house rewired this year when I purchased it. I just got off the phone with XBOX (1800-4MY-XBOX) and after 2 hours of playign with things my computer doesn't even recognize my xbox. I believe I will reformat my computer with a clean install of 7. Why not right?
