Solved Win7 64 Cannot start Windows Time service

I just found this on another post.

command window and run "net stop w32time" followed by "w32tm /unregister", "w32tm /register" and "net start w32time" and then
"w32tm /resync".

Again at the register step I get:

w32tm.exe /register

The following error occurred: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider. (0x80071069)

I'll pm you. Thanks :)

Well done! Between the registry entries you sent and the fix you linked, all problems solved.

w32tm.exe /register
W32Time successfully registered.

net start w32time
The Windows Time service is starting.
The Windows Time service was started successfully.
Thank you :)

I am very impressed. /hat tip

Well done to you Innomen.
It is you who fixed this problem we just helped you.
So happy you found the answer.
Good work, I am so happy for you like I was a long time ago when I had the same.
Let it settle and prove its worth and then learn "Back Up"
Macrium reflect is one of the best freeware for this you will learn plenty in the tutorials that one of our Gods Brink has arranged.

If you can close this thread after, by explaining the best you can, how you came to this conclusion.
For other solvers like you who may have the same issue.

Well looking back I think a good summary of the fix is this:
Follow the link you gave: Fix Event Log Service Error 4201 The Instance Name Passed Was Not Recognized - The Winhelponline Blog

Then follow the steps originally shared:
Open an elevated command prompt and type...
net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register
net start w32time
w32tm /resync

Then reboot and monitor time.

Also follow the steps outlined in post 12 here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/2363-system-time-service-2.html

Do all that and everything should be repaired and stay repaired.

All is well :)
