Win7 For Students

Pro has 3 features that Home Premium doesnt:
  1. Domain Join (helpful if you ever need to join a large network)
  2. Backup and Restore
  3. XP Mode
Here is chart:

Domain Join is the main thing that might be useful (even necessary) for some students.

Backup and Restore *is in all versions* as the chart shows. It's only the additional ability to do it *to a network* that's in Professional and up, as the chart shows. Most home users don't do that.

XP Mode is a separate downloadable add-on. It's not built in, and most home users aren't going to need it as they don't have the custom applications that are most likely to require it. It's nice to have the ability just in case, but it's doubtful many will ever find need to even download the add-on.

Anyway, when it's the same price, you don't lose out on anything by doing the Professional version instead. It's simply that the vast majority of home/student users are going to have zero need for the additional features -- really only perhaps the Domain Join.

Heres a question maybe one of you guys could answer.

I bought the x64 student edition, but wanted to install it on my netbook as well, so would need the x86. Do you think if I called them, they would give me a x86 as well, because I still bought it and its still the same software? Its normal to get both 32 and 64 when you buy an OS from microsoft... usually :P

I'd be absolutely amazed if you can get x64 to work on a netbook! Drivers may be a huge issue... do your homework first!

...And no, you dont get both 32 and 64, you get 1 or the other!
