So far all programs have been installing fine but I needed to register a few missing DLL files but just today there is an important program I need to install but it gets caught up at the first file to check which is vb6stkit.dll. The program was successfully installed on my previous XP computer and my Win7 professional work computer so it should work on this one.
I know this is a MS Visual Basic 6 file but as far as I can tell MS does not support VB6 anymore. What are my options to get this missing file? I am afraid there might be more missing files in the OS so I would like to know my options.
I have the WIN7 registration# on the top of the tower so is there a fix for this kind of issue?
I tried multiple methods and the program will still not run so I have decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 pro to see what happens. I'm guessing the prior owner did not do a full install of the OS before removing programs and probably wiped out the needed DLL file. No reason why the program will install on my WIN 7 pro laptop and not the PC. I will update after the install.
Bit unusuall that, as W7 normally tells you that you need the required VB20xx, or its included within the program.
Did it kick it out with a compatability error??

torchwood, the installation window stalls immediately on step 1 of 7. I added a picture to show what it does. On my laptop the program installs within seconds.
What is the name of this important program? Maybe the software developer has a set of troubleshooting steps for this kind of error published that we could help you find.
I would never trust a used computer that has Windows installed. You never know if there is a malicious program on it.
Download the Win 7 SP1 OEM iso - With the MS iso downloader (downloader) and download your OEM win 7 Pro.
Use the COA key to install / activate. The Key is 5 fields with 5 numbers & letters.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I am a member of many forums and this one by far has the quickest replies. I just went ahead and reformatted my HD and installed a fresh copy of WIN7. The software I was having problems with installed no problem. Thank you all again for the support. I know where to come with any future problems.
