Hi,

After over a decade of reliable service, my Win7 DVR box has decided to show the dreaded "This computer is not running genuine Windows" dialog. Clicking on the "Resolve online now" takes me to a bunch of unrelated links. The control panel system tab shows "Windows is activated". There have been no hardware or software changes in the past 6 months. Running sfc /scannow did not show any errors. Not sure what to check next.

TBH I'd love to pave this box over with Win11 as it is the last Win7 holdout in the household, but unfortunately I couldn't find a working Media Center solution for Win11.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bob

looks like your licencing store has thrown a wobbly, report showing 2 different keys, please do the following

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

Code:

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
(all one line)
net start sppsvc

slui.exe

After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case
or in your case on the cd box ending J64XX
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

re W11 - your box is to old to fulfill MS's requirements for that OS, 10 will be ok
if you decide to go brand new, this key will activate W11

Thanks for the quick response torchwood.

I just ran through your sequence of steps and it seems to be reactivated now. Strangely it showed the 'successfully reactivated' dialog immediately after slui.exe, but then asked for the key upon rebooting. I'll keep an eye out for the 'not genuine' dialog in case it reappears, but hopefully that did the trick.

Thanks again for your help.
