win7 problem with finding the edition it came with !

hi everyone i'm new here , and i have a toshiba satellite A215 laptop , and i can't find the edition that the computer was built with ? the coa sticker on the back has been rubbed off , i have the product key , i just can't read the sticker , i'm installing a brand new hard drive , and i need to know what edition to install on it ?

Do you know the rest of the model number beyond A215?

I will say it looks like it came with Vista though.

Try this utility, Showkey - Windows 10 Forums If you haven't wiped the factory install yet, it should tell you what you need to know. If the product key you have, is one you found with a key finder, its of no use to you by the way. The factory OEM_SLP keys cannot be used with standard install media. You need the key on the COA sticker to use stock install media. The factory OEM key is not the same key as the one on the COA sticker. It's a brand specific key that is blocked from online activation. The factory OEM_SLP installs do not activate online. They activate against the BIOS SLIC table.

well i only have windows 7 software , will that work if i upgrade from vista to 7 ?

If you want to install Windows 7 you`ll have to buy it.
