Win7 RC Unidentified Network

well im not sure what ipv6 really is, is this somethin new with windows 7 ultimate? also i have tried checking out services.msc

under that i can see the description of all teh started services on my computer..

DHCP client is stared
dns client is started
ip helper started

those are 3 i thought pertained to this.. but i notice one that says IP Helper
it is started as well and under description says provides tunnel connectivity using IPv6 transition technologies.

IP6 is to give the interneet more addresses.

IP4 supports 192.168.1.1
IP6 supports 192.168.1.1.2.2 so there are many more addys

Hope this helps

IPv6 ---> IPv6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you go to your connection properties, you will find a checkbox for IPv6. Uncheck it. Reboot. As ZigZag says/implies - may fix problem .... may not. Some threads here (for earlier builds) seem to indicate that this will correct a number of ills.

OK, so quick sum up for people who have this problem for future reference.

Unidentified Network in Windows 7 ultimate RC.

Possible Solutions:
-i restart my computer it works, but only for short time.
-restarted again today, it works, and i frantically work to update my router, update teh drivers for my connection and uninstall some programs that i did between teh time of no problem and problem.
-lastly i registered my build by going to microsoft and filling out the quick questionaire.

now we may be thinking that IPv6 may be the problem, so what im going to do is leave it enabled for now, and keep an eye on my computer, i know from tests i did last night before i went to sleep that the computer internet works for at least 2 hours. so i will wait as long as possible and post if the problem occurs again. if it does i will disable IPv6 and wait again to see if that works.

question though.. is IPv6 a new thing that came about with Windows 7RC, and not windows 7 beta? because before i switched over to the RC i never had this problem and now i do?
my friend has just switched to 7RC as well and does not have this problem.

I have the same problem.
I tried doing the Powershell fix, but it didn't want to work.
I tried disabling the IPv6 thing, but that didn't work either.

I reset my modem and router, restarted my computer, ended the services that is supposedly doing the damage but still nothing works.
I even followed that thing on having to change the address of the Local Area Connection, but still it did not work.

I really really need help guys.
I'm on XP but it isn't my favoured OS and I want to get back to Windows 7 as soon as I can.

Thanks.

ok i think i got it fixed its been almost 17 hours i think and its working fine. obviously when i changed from the beta to windows ultimate, everything such as driver updates or whatnot didnt get carried over from windows.old

thats like my only guess, and when i restart it worked for a while but reverted to not working, on the last restart earlier today i updated my ethernet device in device manager and im believing thats the answer. thanks for all help, i'll keep an eye on the forum to see if anyone else needs help or has another solution.

Router - Linksys WRK54G
NIC - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
It's a Wired Connection(Cat5)

I jsut updated the NIC driver and still no luck.
